I see occasional discussion about trailer tires but I have never seen anyone mention using the heavy duty trailer tires designed for commercial drop deck or lowboy trailers. They come in the correct sizes to fit our RVs. Seems to me, considering the weights we run, that a tire rated for heavy use might be a wise choice. I am particularly interested because on occasion I might want to run the speed limit. There are a few places where that is 80 mph. I have done that in a fully loaded semi. My concern is running tires on my fiver that are near the load limit.
Thoughts?

There are a number of RV trailer manufacturers that use medium duty truck tires on heavy fivers with 7000 - 8000 lb axles.
The DRV is currently fitting LRJ 17.5” Michelin tires to their units with 8000# axles. Those Michelin’s are of a European design for low profile commercial trailers.
For the 7000# axles there are a number of different brand names being used. The Goodyear G114, LRH, 17.5”, may top that list.
If you have 6000# axles and want to speed-up with adequate reserve load capacity that will equal or exceed your OE tires there is the Yokohama RY103. It’s also a 17.5” tire but in LRF, rated at 3530# at 100 psi.

LT tires, in an E, G, or H should be good for you. I do pull our CarriLite at 70-75 when appropriate.
