Just for fun. What is the dumbest thing you simply HAD to put in your RV (or take with you) that you knew you couldn't live without ?
And in the long run......you laughed and asked yourself (as you were disposing of it)' "What in the world was I thinking ?"

An airplane.
When Chris first hit the road (solo), he dedicated a lot of space in his super tiny RV setup to his paramotor setup (think: parachute wing overhead, with lawnmower strapped to your back). He had just taken the hobby up before he hit the road and had grandious ideas that he'd travel all over and fly. Not a 'dumb' idea - actually sounds like lots of fun!
Today marks his 7th year 'Nomadiversary'.
How many times has he flown in that time period? Three. And it's been over 4 years since the paramotor has been touched.
Sometimes, your visions of what life on the road will be like just don't come together. In this case, he was too much of a novice at paramotoring to feel confortable flying in new places without some coaching, and pre-arranging meeting up with other paramotorists became too logicistally challenging - especially in the beginnng when we were moving around every few days.
Oh, and then there was me.. we meet shortly after he hit the road and moved in with him (yes, into *that* tiny trailer), and paramotoring was definitely a solo adventure. Our adventures naturally started gravitating towards things we could explore together. So, we've lugged that 'dumb' airplane around now for 7 years... that's a lot of space to dedicate to something that doesn't get utilized! I'm not bitter or anything :D

A Projection screen and digital projector. I was conviced I would be showing movies for the kids at the horse shows. Turns out they were all riding up until bedtime, then would crash. Set it up once, watched about 15 minutes of a movie, with one of our trainers, put it away forever.

A metal detector. I thought it would be a new hobby for me.
Two problems: Most of the type of parks we stay in, (State and Federal) do not allow metal detecting.
Second problem: Within 6 months I became disabled and cannot walk more than 50 feet any more!
Oh well, it looked good on paper! LOL

A tent
For years I carried a Pup Tent in case some nieces or nephews wanted to camp out...never did.
We did use it once when some relatives showed up and we already had a full RV.
Don't carry it any longer. Now it sits on a shelf in the garage. Just in case.

I packed away my 210 pound barbell set of weights and my 16th century plate mail suit of armor. I couldn't travel anywhere without these items that I have had for many years. It really took a lot of room, but oh well....did you all notice it is April 1st? hehehe

On a similar note I scanned pages and pages of magazine articles on travel and RVing so we had the information with us when we needed it. Didn't look at any of it.

For me it was a full toolbox with everything from 1/4 inch to 1 1/2 inch wrenches and all the other tools I thought I'd need. One of those small travel boxes would have been enough. For my Wife it was several boxes of travel books from AAA.Never used them as we used Internet to find the same info.

My mother would take a Wok. She was born and raised in China and a Wok is something she uses a lot.

My husband? ...... HA! Since it's April Fools, I had to throw that in!
I took all my big baking pans & cookie sheets and I DON'T EVEN HAVE AN OVEN IN THE RV!!!! I do have a convection/microwave but there's no way any 13x9 pan will fit in there. But I'd had some of that bakeware for 25 years & sure had a lot of memories of the great family meals I'd cooked in those pans. I've gotten rid of them now & I've adjusted to baking in smaller pans in the convection/microwave.

Loved reading all these! Still getting rid of S&B stuff - of course DH and I don't always agree on what will be dumb to take and what is necessary. He doesn't think I need so many knitting needles and I don't think he needs all those books!

Well, not to burst anyone's balloons, but I don't think the process ends.
We sold our stix and brix and moved into our Mobile Suites in a mobile home park because we are still working. In all the time we were in homes, I had a cheap extension ladder that had to be wired together once it was extended so that it wouldn't "jump rungs" and send me down in a hurry. Got rid of ALL of our lawn equipment plus so much more.
Now, because the mobile home lot owner said I could deduct some from my rent if I mowed inside our fenced in area, we bought a lawn mower and cheap string trimmer. Then, we also purchased a Werner 17-foot multi-ladder that is FAR SUPERIOR to any ladder I ever had, and now I don't even have anything to do with a regular home. (However, I really don't trust that rear ladder on the coach, even if it is rated for 300 lbs.) Then, Jo wanted one of those Coleman Road Trip gas grills, we bought one of those. So, with all of that extra stuff, plus the need to store a few other items, we now have a storage shed next to our coach.
So, with all of this said, just be warned to be very careful. When it finally comes time for us to get to travel, I'm going to have to have another garage sale.

Can't comment yet as we are only into week 3, but I got a few ideas already. When you go searching for item A in the back of a cabinet and find other items that were loaded without your knowledge , this thought runs thru your head that says "What in the world is she gonna do with that"... And I'm sure she's thinking the same about my stuff..

I stopped at a rest area totally exhausted from driving for about eight hours and said to the wife; I need to take a couple hours nap; take the children for a walk after we eat lunch. I awoke about threes hours later; got up and got behind the wheel; started the engine and put it in gear. About an hour later and 50 + miles down the highway; I realized how peaceful and quiet it was; looked in the passenger seat; no wife; looked in the rear view mirror and realized I left them at the rest area. 24+ yrs of peace and quiet; every now and then I wonder how they are?
