New Years Day and have been driving out of the LA Basin to the 10 Freeway past Palm Springs. In oncoming traffic, every 4th or 5th vehicle is an RV heading West. Makes me wonder if there are that many ahead & behind us going east?
Perfect travel day for us as traffic is very, very light.

Yip,, we took I-10 from quartzsite to Indio this morning. Traffic was pretty light but there certainly were a lot of RV's. Since we checked in here at Indian Waters I have seen about 7 more come in after us. And we ahve only been here less than 2 hours.

We are in SoCal but the nights are in the 20s at 3,200 feet (Hesperia CA). We are really looking forward to getting to a warmer and lower elevation location for the winter, Mesa AZ.

Hey WestWardHo,
Did they happen to be "toyhaulers"? Big two weeks out in Glamis and Anza-Borrego Recreation Areas for buggies, bikes, quads, Jeeps, etc. Many, including us, headed home on New Years Day. We spent 10 days in the Truckhaven area of Borrego with friends.

Reminds me of when I was visiting family in North Carolina early November and drove down to Orlando to visit other family. Going down I95 it looked like every 4-5th vehicle was and RV heading south to Florida.

Best New Years we've had was out in the Desert for an off road race. Big celebrations with large bonfires everywhere. Lots of used Christmas Trees were burned, they gave off fireworks like sparks each time one of them went up.
It was great to wake up on Jan 1 to a beautiful sunrise and watch the Rose Parade from a cozy TT. That was the first time I learned the value of being able to get satellite TV while boondocking.

Howard, some were toy haulers for sure, but many were small TT's, 5'ers and even all sizes of motorhomes, campers and pop ups. Guessing many leave SoCal for any holiday as I used to do when I lived there.
Kind of looked like Quartsite during February, where you've never seen so many RV's coming & going!
