Finally on the road! Big thank you to all of you & this web site! Our maiden journey- we will be on Rt.I 81 S, looking for a campground to stop for the night in Northern Virginia, hopefully with pull-thru site & ez access. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

We just made the trip south on I-81 and had a tough time finding a decent campground in northern VA. We rely heavily on rvparkreviews.com and most of them had one problem or another. We stopped for a couple of days at Lazy A Campground in Inwood, WV just north of the VA line and loved it. It was off the interstate about 9 miles but then again we love not hearing the interstate noise. However, I think they close at the end of October so maybe not good for you this trip. Down a bit further south we stayed at Endless Caverns Resort in New Market, WV. This was an awesome campground with lots of pull through sites and you have the bonus of having caverns to explore right on the property. They also take Passport America so you can get half price for 1 night if you're a member of PA. If you're looking for something further south in VA (it's a big state!) our favorite stop is Fort Chiswell RV Park just north of Wytheville, VA. All pull thru sites and only about a mile off the interstate. The nice thing about Fort Chiswell is that there is a hill between the campground and the interstate so you really don't get much truck noise. Hope this helps!

I will agree about Fort Chiswell RV Park, it is a good spot further south Further north the campgrounds we stayed at didn't match your criteria (and often our own), are not open this time of year, or were membership campgrounds. Some friends liked Natural Bridge/Lexington KOA, but it looks pricey to me. If you are just looking for easy, Keystone RV Center in Greencastle, PA, just north of Hagerstown, Maryland has a campground off their sales lot on Passport America.

Just be aware that some of the campgrounds are closed for the winter. Make sure to call first to ensure they are open. Endless Caverns is closed for the winter now, there is a KOA right near it though.
Best Regards!

For some reason I was thinking that Endless Caverns was open year round, but you're right. I just checked their website and they closed Nov. 15th. Of the 3 campgrounds I listed it looks like Fort Chiswell is the only one that's open year 'round. The further north you go the earlier the campgrounds close. We were getting in just under the wire on some when we headed south from NY state in October.
