We're thinking about getting a portable water softener for our 5th wheel. Camping World currently has two on sale. Does anyone have any experience with either the Flow-Pur or On The Go models. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

we have the "on the go" model for almost 4 years now and have had good luck with it. I recharge it once a month or so using the cheapest non-iodine salt that I can find (usually Walmart brand) and it does the trick for us. DW likes the way her hair feels after washing it in soft water and it makes the soap "extra sudsy" when showering.

I've got the "On The Go", too. Two thumbs up!!! Really love the fact that it uses just a 25 cent box of salt once a month, or so.
Even though I'm am old fart --I still have all my hair and I like the way it makes mine feel, too. (what's left anyway)

We have used the WaterStick Portable Water Softener ($70.00 to $140.00) for over 6 years. It softens the water exactly the same as all water softeners do at ½ the cost or less. The unique regeneration process regenerates 100% of the resin bed, is the simplest, fastest, and only uses 2 liters of water with 2 cups of common table salt (about 15 cents worth). Our 40 ft RV has 3 sinks, a washer / dryer and the usual shower & toilet. We regenerate about every 2 weeks using less than 2 gallons of water to flush out the salt and minerals leaving clean soft water for another 2 weeks. The system has no moving parts, is sealed so the resin never needs replacing. It does not have to stand upright to function and stores easily in any compartment.

I use the Mark 8000 - ther is also a 10,000 model. A lot of people use this model. I can't tell you if it is the best on the market or not....but it works well. We have been using it for about 4 years. I have it plumbed into my system with a bypass for when I don't need it.

We have the On The Go basic model. We spend 6-9 mos per yr in areas with very hard water.Works well for two of us. We have a w/d combo & recharge every two weeks. If doing it again, I'd probably get the next larger, or "double" one, which goes longer before recharge is needed. I like that it uses table salt.

Thanks for posing about the Water Stick water Softener. I have been look at softeners and was considering an On The Go until I saw your post. Went to their web site and was really intrigued by the simple design, ability to operate while laying on its side and short, simple regeneration cycle. Was wandering if you could just add Iron Out with standard table salt to help with iron deposits if needed?
