good luck most wifi and cellular connections available on the road will not support gaming online........you will get lucky here and there but I guess it depends on the speed your looking for.
my son travels with me frequently and he is the Definition of game Geek!!!!! he had to change his personal entertainment values pretty quickly as soon as we headed out , of course it didnt bother me so much until about the 2nd week when he suddenly got a grasp on the english language...and he would just " Hey Dad" me to death for 8 hours of travel time!!!!
He turns 16 this year , hopefully the old are we there yet will come back and he can take a nap inbetween!!!!

Depends on what kind of gaming you're doing? Some online games don't do well with latency, and most mobile internet solutions have latency issues (satellite being the worst, cellular being marginal). Cellular data will vary in speed by location, but 4G speeds are pretty awesome and might be workable.
WiFi will be your best bet, but it too will be highly variable depending on where you stay.
You may have to re-adjust your expectations as to how much you can game and what kind of games you immerse yourself in. Or even.. gasp.. try exploring the world you're traveling through some? :D (I joke intentionally.. I'm writing this from Dragon*Con.)

4G LTE is solid for gaming and 3G is alright for most things except fighting games. Checkout this article - http://3gstore.com/gaming
I demo some gameplay over both 3G and 4G. I know a lot of customers outside of Cable/DSL reach that game daily over 3G and 4G!
Edit my moderator: Matt, I tried to activate you link but it went 404 on me. Would the following be the same that you were trying for?
