I've dreamed of rving and have researched it for years. I love to read blogs of full time rvers and their experiences. Last year we bought our first motorhome. Then came my fear of riding in it. My hubby has been going out and getting experience driving it with a friend and my confidence is building. He's does really well I should add and I think I'll finally be ready to ride in it. We will goin on our first little outing Sept 5th and it's only about 1 1/2hrs away from home. I've tried to plan everything for a fun successful little outing. We will be parked with a view of the water which I will love. I'm very hopeful that we will absolutely love the experience.
We are starting with an older motorhome to see if this is something we want to do. I'm giving it five years of playing and then I will evaluate the rving experience and determine if we want to buy a newer, nicer model. We'll see but until then let the journey begin.

Smart to start out with a used MH to test the waters.
Maybe this will help ease your fears, even I get butterflies in my stomach just before we take off on a trip and I've been RVing for 59 years in every type of RV you can imagine. Once I get on the road I'm great. Especially once we get out of town and are cruising down the highway.
You are very safe in a MH. It sits up higher than the rest of the traffic so you can see what's going on up ahead.
Enjoy the ride..... Hopefully on this maiden voyage you'll get to see some great scenery.

Totally understand how you are feeling. We got our first motorhome all we knew was that it had a steering wheel. Took our time and renovated it for about a year. Never went out in it. The time finally came to go out in it and I was sooo nervous. I finally settled down half way to our destination, when my dear hubby proceeded to tell me that when we are towing our Tracker you can't back up. Panic again, we're we going to get stuck in a situation where we couldn't back up. Then my hubby said that the worse thing that can happen is we have to unhook. Ease the nerves.
Made wise choices with getting an older RV and also making your maiden voyage close to home
Once you do it all I can say is I think you will love it and can't wait to go again and it is really hard to come back to the sticknbricks.
Good luck, have fun and enjoy the adventure. You will learn new things everytime you go out but that's what makes it fun

Just like the others have said I was nervous and still am when we get a chance to take a trip out in our rig. Just take your time and enjoy the good times.

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. You will find the folks here (except with a few exceptions) to be one to reassure you that things will be fine. (Unlike some of the others, I'll be an "exception" and explain that I've driven 18-wheelers before, thus towing a fifth wheel is no problem with me.)
Now, like the others, I can reassure you that while it might seem daunting in the beginning, things will get better as both of you get more experience. So, don't worry about it too much. Just be careful to look for low hanging limbs and such. Shoot, even the experienced folks can find those in the wrong way.
Feel free to ask questions and make comments as we all tend to learn from each other.

I can understand your fears. We just bought a 33 ft class A and I am used to driving a Honda CRV so to say the least it worried me when I drove it off the lot. Like your husband I have been taking it out on the weekends for a drive around different areas. My wife has owned RV's previously but she doesn't seem to want to drive it much. I am sure that you are going to have a great time on your first trip. We are choosing to do our first trip closer to home to make sure that everything works properly. We started with an older Class C that we kept for three years. Steve was playing on an over 50 softball team so we would take the Class C to the weekend tournaments. We enjoyed it so much that we bought a Class A, moved into it last October and left Florida in March to become full timers. We have been in Oregon since April. The job we have gives us plenty of time to sight see. We hope to spend next summer in CO. We miss our family and friends but know we are very lucky to be living this life. We'll be home for a month at Christmas. The weather in Florida should be what we have become used to here in Oregon! Enjoy the adventure!
