With the economy the way it is we had decided to lease the house out and have a local real estate agent manage it for us. In final talks with the agent he talked us into putting it on the market for 60 days and see what happens. That still gave us plenty of time for leasing when it didn't sell.
It hit the multiple listings at 10 AM on a Friday and sold by 4PM for 11K over asking with 4 backup offers! We were all prepared for leasing not selling. The buyers bought the property site unseen, and Terry will appreciate this, they are from Oklahoma.
After discussing what just happened with our realtor it seems, at least in So Cal there is a shortage of homes for sale. People that don't have to sell for one reason or another are just holding out. The young family that bought our house lost out on another one in the area because they were the 11th offer.
in preperation for leasing the house I was fixing all the little things that you never seem to get too. Installed all new flush valves in all three bathrooms. new water heater, did some painting, had a chimney sweep come in etc. All to help avert the middle of the night phone call. I guess the buyers are making out a little.
We did a 30 day lease back and will be moving in with my youngest son and his wife for the month of August.
We hit the road Sept. 10th!

That's great news Ken. I would've liked to lease my house in Texas, but thanks to the friendly folks at the IRS deciding I needed to send them more money for some consulting years that wasn't an option. But looking on the bright side that it is all done and we're free to travel as we please.

Ken, that sounds like a duplicate of our experience in selling our house. We too had plans to rent it out if we couldn't sell and surprise surprise it sold in 2 days for very close to our asking price which is a miracle in forclosure-plagued Florida. Home selling is such a gamble in this market so you just don't know what will happen until you put the house up for sale. We are super happy for you guys and hope you like the full time RV life as much as we do! Congrats!

Sounds like Florida and California are sellers markets. Here in Arkansas there are tons of homes for sale and folks only seem to want to rent. In the little retirement area we are in there are more homes for sale than folks living here it seems. (We are in a rural type area.) Most homes in our area are second homes where folks can come and enjoy the lake.
How exciting to hear one more dream is coming true. Enjoy the open road!!!

Congrats, FT is wonderful, we still grin like cheshire cats when we realize what we're doing. Today was spent in the pool, and Wed. it's off to Jax. Fl for a month. Like I said FT can't be beat.
