Hi Everyone! DH & I made our decision a couple of months ago to begin fulltiming (and workamping) and have since been putting it into motion. We bought a TT a couple of years ago, and have been having a great time camping and enjoying it (we call her our Baby, knowing we will progress to a 5er). Before that we were tent campers (still miss my tent, but won't go back ha ha) We bought it used to get used to pulling it, how things work, etc and the whole hitch thing...I completely redecorated the inside and it made a big difference. We plan on getting a 5er as soon as the house sells but we really haven't started shopping for that yet. Anyway, we are hoping to pull out of our driveway end of year 2014. Started cleaning out some things and have a couple of boxes started. We hope to put the house on the market January 2014 (talked to a realtor a couple of days ago) and hope it sells by June. Has anyone had any luck in that dept in the past couple of years? I am currently reading RVdreams.com daily journal to keep myself motivated and hopefully learn from them. We will probably need to workamp for awhile while we get used to the whole "living on a fixed income" thing. DH turns 55 in 2014 and can retire and I start SS the same year which will give us some income. This forum is going to help, I'm sure. Sorry, this was so long, gave you our whole history ha ha. The class of 2014 looks to be a great one, that is our hopeful push off year as well . I am a Realtor serving the Western MA region and I can tell you that things here have been very busy. This has been a good market for both the buyer's and seller's. If you are dressed right (your home) and priced right your home will sell. Just remember all real estate is local so rely on a local expert.

Thanks Anne, that gives me some hope! There is a home down the street that went up for sale a week ago at a price I could live with. I hope she gets every penny she's asking, that would sure help us! Can't wait to meet you in 2014!!

One thing I wanted to mention...when you list your house for sale you need to be prepared in case it sells quickly. What is your plan if a buyer shows up 1 day after you list the house and offers full-price, 10 day escrow, cash offer? I only mention this because most expect the sale to take a long time.
One solution you might want to consider is moving into the TT when you list the house. Stage the house and remove everything else. Less to worry about, minimal cleaning required, and you are prepared to hit the road at anytime.

Hey Dan, yes we did think about that, not thinking 1 day of course, but the reason it is not up for sale right now is because the realtor said the houses in our price range and area are going in 3-4 months. Would love to take off that soon, but we prefer to wait til we have those checks in hand if you know what I mean....But that is our plan, if things go quicker than expected we are totally prepared to live in the camper. We love our little guy and will be perfectly and have been perfectly fine in it for short periods, but everytime we take it out for more than a week we both agree we definitely need something bigger when more permanent arrangements are made!
Thanks for the warm welcome and I have LOTS of questions and that is another reason we are not leaving any sooner - ha ha. Doing lots of research and am happy to say finding lots of answers. Thanks to all those that have gone before us and are willing to share!@!!!

Hi and welcome....you're story sounds so similar to ours. My husband is already retired and I will in early 2014. Right now we are in our TT and doing some workamping, but we are stationery until 2014. We too started in a tent, then went to a pop-up, TT and finally did some traveling in a 5th. wheel. In 2005 we made a decision to stay put and sold the 5th wheel. Boy did we miss the camping scene.....back into a tent--now we're older and can't do the sleeping bag on the floor thing--bought cots. This was OK for a short time, but we had to have a pop-up. Now we are back in a TT. Come November, that will change as we are planning to purchase a used 5th wheel. We will start seeing the places we want to see in this country. We are still planning to workamp. Good luck with your house. Tom & Fran

Welcome to the family Gregg and Debra. Good luck with the house sale. When we listed ours we moved out and into our 5th wheel (fondly named Serenity) and staged the house. It made for minimal cleaning as we only used the washroom and laundry. I think this was the reason we sold as quickly as we did. It also made the process much easier as we didn't have the pressure of keeping the house in pristine shape to show at a moments notice.
However you do it I wish you the best of luck with it and the whole process. It can be a stressful time but try to relax and enjoy the ride. You will be out here on the road before you know it.
Maybe we will meet one day somewhere down the road.

Thanks Ivey, I know you are right and we really don't have long to wait, but 2 years seems like a very long time when you're the one waiting. But as someone before me said, think of it as "waiting on Christmas when you were a child" - totally put it in perspective for me. Lucky you to have already gone ahead!! How quickly did you sell your house?

Those two years will go by fast. There is so much to do. In fact the last 6 months will go so fast they hardly count. We were so very lucky. We had a great realtor who sold our house for us in 11 days. I truly believe it was because we were not in it and staged it well. Because we didn't have to worry about cleaning up for a showing we didn't need much advance notice. We also sold it partially furnished and the couple who bought it were newly weds and didn't have much. This was quite a draw for them. Most of the stuff we left would have just gone to goodwill anyway. It was a win win situation.
You said you have not started looking for a 5er yet. No time like the present. We looked at hundreds before buying Serenity. We went to as many dealerships and RV shows as we could find. When we did decide to buy we had a very clear picture of what we liked and wanted and what we didn't.
