Thanks for the info Jack. I will check them out. I have been checking out the cameras on www.tadibrothers.com and thought I would try this forum for feedback.

Has anyone installed a back up camera on their 5th wheel? If so what brand?

I have put on many cameras on both 5ers and trucks. My current truck has 4 cameras, and my current RV has two cameras. I like this guy on ebay. His stuff is pretty good quality, his prices are fair, and he is good about answering questions and is reliable. I've been dealing with him for years.

purchased the two camera system with TFT color moniter from the ebay site Jack referenced. I have had the system for going on 4 years now and zero problems. I have one camera on the back of the semi to assist in hooking up and the other on the rear of the 5th wheel. The nice thing is when backing into a site the DW can give me directions by talking towards the camera and I can hear her in the cab of the truck.

Thanks for all the feedback. How did you secure the camera to your 5th wheel? I was a little concerned about attaching to the vehicle. Is that not a problem?

Attachment is not really an issue. You can do it many ways. On the rear view cameras on the 5er I have silicone and two screws holding them on. The screws go right into the fiberglass without an issue. Put a little silicone on the threads. Some cameras have a rubber gasket, but my rearview has a bracket. I just put some silicone around the holes and screwed it down. No issues with that. On the truck I just used adhesive caulk alone to attach the cameras (except the one an a stalk at the hitch). It has held two of the cameras fine for 9 years.

Jack, did you use a wireless system or hard wire?

All my systems are hardwire. I know of no one that has had satisfactory results with wireless systems on anything buy short distances - too much interference and you DO NOT want the camera cutting out when you need it the most. Plus, even with a wireless you have to wire power to it - so why not just pull all the wires. I'm sure there are high-end wireless cameras that work...but I know of no one that has one. I know a dozen people that have tried them and pulled them out.

My previous RV was a 5W and I used a wireless system. I did not want to run cable thru two vehicles (RV and Truck) and it was less expensive than a wired system. Power came from hooking the camera into a running light on top of the rig. Finding a water proof camera or enclosure was a bit difficult tho.
I was on the road this week and passed a 5W with a back up camera system. I don't know why manufactuers have taken so long to make them standard equipment. Once you have one, you'll always want one.
