We are Richard and Janet. Although I (Janet)and an active forum watcher this is the first I have heard of RV-Dreams and I'm glad to see another forum to help answer questions. We started FT in 1997 when we sold the house back in PA and bought an older 5th whl. At age 47/48 we were not retired and found ourselves working in Yellowstone during the summers of 97,98,99 for the concessionair then in 01 and 02 for the Park Service. Now in our 16th yr of FT we have worked in Yellowstone, Rocky Mt, Prescott NF, CA state park in the Redwoods, Disney, Perry's Victory in OH, Golden Gate, White Sands Missle Range, Grand Canyon, Oregon Trail and now Mt. Ruchmore (and lots of places inbetween). We have had two 5th whls and now a MH. We have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren. We still work some but prefer to be retired now. We like to read, bike and kayak.

Wow, Richard and Janet, that is quite a resume! How did you find all those neat jobs? What was your source (or sources?).

Don and Robin; Our first knowledge of jobs like these was through word of mouth and a stranger gave us an old Workamper News. Although we have had only one job through WK it has provided us with a lot of hints. Back in 97, when we decided to travel I just called RV parks in the NPs that we wanted to work in and 4 out of 5 called us to come on out. We didn't have a computer like now to look things up or a cell phone to keep in touch along the way. Sometimes we would just look for work when we got to a location. We left good (relatively speaking) jobs in PA and became independently poor but love it. We gave ourselves 3 yrs to see how we liked it and found ourselves working in Disney where we bought our secound 5th whl and kept traveling. Richard finally got a perment job with Park Service at Perry's Victory in Sandusky OH so we had health insurance again. From there we tranfered from place to place with the Fed goverment. After 6 yrs he was able to buy back his military years and retire from the Fed government. We still at age 62 and 63 work during the summer to pay for CC bills that never seem to stop growing, but hope next year to just travel (with the grandchildren if Richard can be talked into it).

Janet and Richard,
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. Sorry that I haven't welcomed you sooner, but we've been having "issues." It sounds like you are going to be a valuable source of information with what you've done of traveling and of workkamping. Good to have you with us.
