You can't get internet with the tailgater as far as I know. From what I understand it only works with one certain receiver for tv.

we have used one for the last several months and love it. They only receive TV, no internet and as mentioned they only work for one TV and only with the 211K receiver. They are HD capatable and we paid a one time fee for "HD for life". There is no DVR built into the receiver but an external computer memory can be attached via a USB cable and it works as your DVR once you subscribe to the service through Dish Network, again this is a one time fee only.
good luck,
Phil

I'm looking at this Dish Tailgater. The $499 price seems to include everything you need. Do you purchase this item or lease it like the equipment used in a sticks&bricks?

you can purchase it or lease it.....just make sure you read the fine print if you are purchasing and if you buy a used 211k reciever...call dish network and verify that the receiver is an open market unit......if it was a leased unit they will not turn it on and you will be out that money!!

I use Prepaid dish network so there is no contract.......dont pay the bill they turn it off , pay the bill its on......the coach came with the automatic cube and I had to find a 211k receiver
had a few problems in the beginning with dish , they wouldnt turn it on without sending a tech out to install.....made a few more phone calls until I got a number to a higher up in the suit and tie section and explained who I was and how I was being treated , I got My dish and I know someone got walking papers!!

Dish is such a racket. When I moved from Missouri, I left the receiver at my house there. Didnt think I needed to bring it. Got here and called for service and they said nope, gotta have your receiver. Um....can I buy a new one? Nope. Can I start a new contract? Nope. So we had no dish till I had time to drive back to Missouri to get it! Now I know.

When I bought mine, I got an older model of the 211 reciever that didn't have the software on it. A tailgater cannot download the software from the satellite. A regular HD portable dish can, but I didn't have one, so DW found the Dish Doctor in St. Peter, MN. He spent 2 hours making it right and didn't charge a thing. Took it back to the 5er and it works perfectly. Now I love it. Thanks again to the Dish Doctor!

We just bought the Tailgater with our new fifth wheel. We were told at the dealership that it would work with two tv's. Wrong, it does not. We hooked it up to a tv outside just to see if we could figure out how to work it. Fairlly straight forward. But when we tried to conect it to the RV conectors, no luck. Since we are parked at a home base spot for a few months I called Dish and asked them to activate our old receivers & would they send a tech out to install our Dish, as we had moved. When I told her we were living in an RV, she told me we would have to hire a private company to come out. They don't install satlite dishes for RV's. We are not tech inclined you mite say so 275 dollars later we have our programming. We were told that we could use the tailgater with our old receivers when we traveled, instead of switching receivers each time we move to a different place. We will only be able to watch one tv with it but we can watch any old recordings on the second tv, using our old receivers.

Again, no Internet with any of the portables. As far as portables go, check out the new Pathways X2. It is fully automatic, has a larger dish for better reception, and can support two receivers. It only works with the VIP series. I use two 211Z receivers each with an external hard drive. This gives me HD on all the TVs and the ability to record independently.
I only use it when were under trees or ports and the Traveler can't be used.
