We currently have a TT, but I want a 5th wheel. My husband is insistent on wanting to get a golf cart so that would nix my whole 5th wheel plan. I don't like the toy haulers, to me they all look like a garage throughout. I want one with a bedroom and 1/2 bath in back like the Montana 346LBQ. I want more living and storage space than I have now and would be more than happy just walking around the campground if I can have my 5er. Afterall, walking keeps you young. He is convinced after this past weekend and his dad visiting with the motorhome and his pickup toad hauls their golf cart. I'll admit it was nice to cart my son and his toys to and from the beach and pool with it. I know we could rent one when we go to a CG but that gets costly every trip. I was just wandering how many of you have golf carts and how do you haul them? TT's with cart in bed of truck, toy haulers, etc?

You need to look at some versions of 5th wheel toyhaulers. Some have small garage areas perfect for a golf cart or two harleys. When the golf cart is out the garage can be converted into a craft, living or entertainment area using folding or blowup furniture.
Some RV'ers use medium or heavy duty trucks to tow the 5th wheel. These trucks can be outfitted with longer wheelbases to allow room to carry a golf cart behind the cab.
We carry two 4 wheel mobility scooters and have outfitted them so they look like small golf carts. They have removable awnings/roofs, radio, cup holders and baskets to carry stuff in. One goes in the bed of the truck behind the hitch (just have to raise the 5th wheel up high enough to pass by it when hitching). The other is carried on a lift rack at the back of the 5th wheel or on the car if we bring it (usually).
With the two mobility scooters I can go where I want to go and the DW can go where she wants to go. Or if she gets to chatting with someone I can keep going and she'll catch up.

I'm curious why you need a golf cart? In our travels I've not seen many FT's hauling a golf cart. The folks who stay long term in SKP parks and similar have golf carts that stay in the park for use while they are staying there, but when they travel they don't take the cart with them. And I have seen some parks that do not allow any non-licensed vehicles to be operated in the park itself. I'm sure insurance and liability play a big part in what they allow.

makntracks, I agree with The Bear II. Although we are currently gonnabes, I have also been shopping around. May I suggest that the toyhaulers offer so much more versatility, IMHO. Some have 1.5-2 bathrooms, for one thing. One of the reasons I have gone from considering a 5er to considering a toyhauler is because we want to get a 4-wheeler. We think it would be helpful to be able to scout out areas where our toyhauler may or may not fit. In other words, if you turn down a road to check out the sites and there is nowhere to turn your big rig around, well, oops! If, for some reason, we had to go to a bath house/laundromat, a 4-wheeler would be convenient for carrying us and our stuff. A washer/dryer (if you opt for that) will also fit in the "garage", giving you more storage in your bedroom. While a toyhauler shortens the space in the kitchen/living room area, it also gives you a place to sit "outside" in a driving rain, for example, instead of being couped up inside and having nowhere to go! It also offers additional seating and a table for "outdoor" visits, card playing, "picnics", etc. Some also offer screened patios. They even provide additional sleeping/storage space. So, there is MUCH flexibility in a toyhauler. Finally, the main TV in a toyhauler is located at the end of the room, and not across from a sofa or theatre seating. Not convenient. BUT, all is not lost. Just put an easy chair/recliner in the garage conveniently situated in direct vision to the TV out there. Problem solved, AND you have your space and he has his man cave!
Since you are early on in the process, your choices will change many times over, I'm sure. I know mine have. Just keep an open mind and toss things around... with your DH! When the time arrives to make your purchase, you will know, by that time, that you have made the right choice.

Thanks, Mary, for the positive outlook on the toy hauler idea. I hadn't really thought of it that way. I always get side tracked with the limited decor in them when I walk through the door. I'm sure you know what I mean with the black leather and racing flag look to the sofas, netting above instead of cabinets, etc. I will try to keep a more open mind and compromise with him some more over this if he is truly set on the golf cart idea. Thanks again.

Look at the Heartland Cyclone models. I'm currently debating on one of those or an Airstream. I like both but the DW hasn't weighed in yet.
The Cyclone garage door can actually be layed out like a deck and has rails that go around so the little ones don't fall off. An awning on the back and BAM! Instant outdoor extension of the hauler!

makntracks, glad to hear you now have another perspective. Warning! Your perspective will change many times over before you finally decide. Take, for instance, today... we dropped by a couple of local RV places and I fell in love with the Winnebego Adventurer. I believe it is a Class C. (Sorry, I'm still learning what everything is... travel trailer, 5er, tent. ) Anyway, I absolutely fell IN LOVE with it. I like the classy feeling it exudes plus it has 1.5 bathrooms! The hallway to the bedroom is wide, storage is ample, everything is VERY well appointed. What I also like is that the 2 captain's chairs (driver and passenger) feel as though they are part of the seating group and not part of the cab. So, right now I'm torn... BIG time! Really, really, torn. But, as I mentioned before, we will settle on something eventually. Right now, though, I suppose we are just weighing our options? While shopping, we should keep in mind how we will actually use the coach. Is it for us? Look around and ask yourself, "Will I be able to spend all day in here? Will I be able to cook in here? Will I be able to relx in here?" All those things. Keeping these questions in mind while "shopping" should help us out, don't you think? It might be a good idea to start a new post, What type of coach do YOU prefer, and why?
Maybe our new RV family can provide some valuable advice, and help us know what to look for... or NOT to look for!
