We are VERY excited now! Just wanted to let all know that our house is under contract as of today! We had it on the market as "sell by owner" for 6 weeks and nothing happeded. We signed with a Realtor March 4th and on the 5th veiwing we have a contract that is within 2% of the asking price.
The buyers want a quick closing, by May 22, which is great for us as we move into a house we rent at the NJ shore for the summer. Now no more house or tax payments and the shore house is already paid for until the end of October.
June starts the 5er and TV search for real.
We have watched with envy others who have sold and started the FT life and now it is our turn. Yea us!

Congratulations on the contract. Oddly enough, our experience was just the opposite of yours. We had our home listed with a trusted realtor for 2 1/2 years with no real results, not even an offer. We went with "for sale by owner" in order to cut the commission and offer the house at a lower price. A local realtor offered to list our home on the MLS for a flat fee of about $300.
It took about six more months to sell, but in that process we had one continguency contract that fell through because they couldn't sell their home in Kansas, and then our buyer made their offer. I guess it just goes to show that most any method could have results.
Good luck with your plans.

It's strange with the Realtors here in our area. We also listed with MLS privately and only had a couple of Realtors view the house. Seems they came just to get us to list with them. We couldn't even get Realtors to come out to the house at a Realtors open house with free wine and food! It felt like we were being ostracized because we were doing it on our own. We even offered to pay the buyers commission.

Congratulations, There's still hope for us. We've had our house listed for almost a month now and have not had one showing. We had a realtor open house and 6 realtors came but 3 of those were from different offices of the listing company. We have an open house this Sunday. Would be nice to have someone look just to get some feedback.
