Hello Everyone,
Figured it was time to say something and quit lurking! My name is Lela and my husband is David. I first found this web-site about a year ago when we were putting our house on the market. You see it's like this.....
We have been married for 25 years, David has over 30 years as a Firefighter and I have over 30 years of Accounting/Bookkeeping for various companies. We also built a few houses over the years to try and be ahead of the game for retirement (we all know the economy and housing crash took care of that dream). After raising 2 beautiful and ambitious daughters, they actually had the nerve to move out and leave us sitting in a big old house. So we put the house on the market and sold it while we could actually walk out with a few dollars. We will be retiring at the beginning of June.
When I first found this forum I joked about moving full time into an RV and while we actually considered it, we are so attached to our children and the hope of being just as attached to our future (one day) grandchildren that we knew we could never be too far away from them for extended periods of time. We are from Las Vegas, so we bought a cabin in So. Utah just few hours from our girls, sold our Toyhauler, bought a Motorhome and we are just going to go play and see as much as we can, while we are still young enough to enjoy it!!!!
We were so excited to see the Fall Rally on the West Coast..... HOWEVER, our oldest daughter is getting married that weekend so our great adventure will start in early October at the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque and any suggestions on where to go from there would be greatly appreciated........ Looking forward to meeting you somewhere along the road!!!!

Welcome to the forum Lela! Glad you could come out of lurkdom. We will also be in Albuquerque, but will be working at the Balloon Fiesta. We usually stay at the airbase, but there are some very nice rv parks west of town.
Feel free to ask all these wonderful people questions and to chip in wherever.
Once again, welcome!

Lela and David,
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. Since you've been lurking for about a year, you've probably figured out that this is a friendly and informative place, not only on the forums but in Howard and Linda's informational topics.
Feel free to ask questions as we always appreciate the new perspectives that sometimes come with them. Your comments are welcome as well.
Glad to have you as part of the "family."

Welcome! The Balloon Fiesta is a most excellent way to launch your adventure! We may meander that way this year as well, as we loved it so much last year.

Welcome. We too are from Las Vegas. Like you,we decided to sell our home here while we could still get some money out. Sold last June, in three weeks, buyer bought all our stuff, on top of a sale price that was very close to listing, but as you know, a lot less than previous. We have been living in our RV since then. Love it! We operate two businesses, one a consult which can be operated from the road, the other related to the school year. We were on the road June,July and August and came back here, to Oasis Las Vegas, where we will be 'till June. We had the school business sold, but it fell through, and if we don't find a buyer we'll probably just sell the equipment off and hit the road.Don't know for sure. The balloon event in Abq has long been on our "bucket list". Hope to head that way in the fall, if we are free of the business here.Last summer we went to Virginia where one of our girls lives and then down to Tampa, to spend time with the other. Came back through Texas and stayed at the place where the spring rally will be held, in Kerrville Tx. What a nice place. Wish we could have planned to go. Hopefully next time. Big country out there, lots of places to see. Hope the time for planning where to go next comes soon for us.

We have a similar situation except we are in Virginia and have 4 grandsons here and 5 grandkids in Michigan so at least we will burn the freeways going back and forth. Of course we will take a couple trips outside that path to see friends and the rest of this wonderful country.
Welcome

Thank you for all the welcome wishes!!!!
This is such a great forum and we have learned so much from everyones experiences. We are so excited to begin this next adventure that we keep having to stop ourselves from moving up the Retirement Day!!!!! We are trying to complete all of our motorhome projects first while we still have spare income. I am currently remodeling the valances and fabrics in the motorhome, this turned into a much larger project than I had anticipated but it is fun and gives me something to do on the weekends. I have a new respect for upholstery workers!

Welcome Lela & David,
We, too, were lurkers about a year ago. Things changed rapidly for us in June 2011 when we both lost our jobs due to budget cuts within five days of each other. Couldn't afford the stix and brix house, so we sold and were on the road by the end of October (five days after our house closed!).
The freedom of having your home with you wherever you go is fun. We are "semi-retired" so still work as much as possible to pay debt and monthly bills.
You will find your own pace and way of doing things. Enjoy the journey--you're already on it.
