Looking for a place to stay in Fort Myers Beach area

We are taking a trip around the state staying mainly in State parks but can't find anything around the Ft Myers area. Does anyone have a recommendation for this area. We will be in the Brandenton area and then heading south on 75 before traveling east across the state. We don't want to pay more than about $40 a night but we are getting desperate!
Any help appreciated.

Try Koreashion State park in Estero. Not sure of the rates there. It is right off 41 and Corkscrew. Not far from Ft. Myers

I'll second the vote on Koreshan State Historic Site. We stayed there for 2 weeks during the Christmas-New Year holiday and loved it. It's just south of Fort Myers in Estero but it's a short drive to get to either Fort Myers or Naples.
If you can get in and want satellite, get a site facing the west. Trees block the satellites for the most part on the east facing ones.

We did try Koreshan but it is booked. We are late trying to book at State parks, any private parks that anyone knows of?

Not sure how far in advance you're looking to stay but all of the Florida State Parks have non-reservable sites that open up every day. If you were willing to take a chance you might get a non-reservable site on the day of your arrival, but have a backup plan for another campground just in case you can't get in.
While we were staying at Koreshan we checked out W. P. Franklin COE park. It's just east of Fort Myers and very nice. All of the sites are open (no shade) but it's very well kept - each site with a full pad and a pavilion roof over each picnic table. I'm sure it's very quiet except for the occasional boat passing by.

I've stayed in Fort Meyers Beach many years and there is a RV park right on the beach called the Red Coconut on Estero Blvd. It's fairly large but it gets very busy in March there. A bit less toward the middle of April. Very nice park and walking distance to anything you might need on the strip. Also recommend the Beached Whale for sandwich food or Junkaroos for a family dinner, both right there by the RV park. Enjoy, Fort Meyers Beach is my favorite winter escape.

Try North Fort Myers, http://rvparkreviews.com/regions/Florida/North_Fort_Myers.html shows many choices under $40 a night.
Edit: There is a Corps of Engineer (COE) park in the area, W.P. Franklin Lock & Dam North - http://www.saj.usace.army.mil/Divisions/Operations/Branches/SFOO/recreation_camping_wpfranklin.htm .
