We keep our 5er plugged in even at home. Now we are living in it in FL and the 12v lights go dim after being on for awhile. Could it be a bad battery or a bad power supply?

At the last park we were at, the couple next door were having the same problem. In their case, it ended up being the batteries. One tested bad and the other one was weak.

I forgot to mention that the first night here the lights were bright then went dim right before we heard a grinding noise.....then they came back on dim. Now when we first put them on they are bright, then gradually go dim.

Sounds like you have had a converter/battery charger failure. The grinding noise just might have been the cooling fan coming to a stop. Without it, all the 120V stuff works fine, and the 12V stuff depends on the batteries.

Melanie,
It's good to see you back on the forums. It has been a while since we've had updates as to how things are going for you.
As for the dimming, I think the others are giving good advice. You might need to find an electrician or a mobile tech for RV's to test out the converter and the batteries.
I can't remember whether you bought your fiver new or not, but if it was used and you haven't replaced any batteries, it may be time now.

Thanks Terry.....my husband forgot to bring his test meters....he has pretty much determined that it is the converter box....we are going to call the mobile tech guy. We bought our unit last year....it is 5 years old now. This is only our 2nd big trip in it.....leaning a lot with each one!
I disappeared for a while because for the past 6 months I was helping with grandkids in Nashville. Now DH took me for some R&R here in FL!!!

Yes Flyone! Truck has been awesome. My SIL fixed and overhauled a few problems....husband actually enjoyed the trip this time! :).
5er is great... Just a little $400 replacement today... But extended warranty will take care of some of it. Crossroads makes a good trailer!
