We are sailors about to "swallow the hook" and move from cruising on a boat to a land yacht of sorts. We will be asking questions about:
- Truck campers (slide ins)
- Best trucks to use for slide-ins.
- Best print media publications for R/Ving (as we write for sailing magazines, we would like to continue in our new persuits)
Wow... way to many areas to list.
We are blessed in that we can use military campgrounds and recreation centers as I'm retired military (but over it).

Welcome. Can't say much about truck campers, though that was what I originally wanted.
There are not that many print media publications out there. Trailer Life and Motorhome magazines are the ones I know that go on newsstands. Clubs have active ones, like Escapee's, Good Sam's and FMCA's magazines, along with regional mags like RV Journal (West Coast).

Welcome aboard. Can't help on slid-ins but also can use military campgrounds. If you are near Virginia, look into Lunga reservoir on MCB QUANTICO.

We started in a 9' cab over camper on a 1-ton truck single rear wheels when the kids were just little. As the kids grew so did the RV. Moved up to several different travel trailers and now to a MH. I enjoyed the camper at the time but for us now it would be a little small.
I believe you can get up to a 12' cab over today. To handle this heavy a camper I would go with a dually for stability reasons.

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums, Fabuler. You will find a lot of friendly and helpful folks here, all pretty much willing to help others.
I will also suggest the dually as well. When you get a large slide-in camper into a truck, you are a huge sail (I think you understand that) going down the road, subject to some pretty hefty crosswinds.
As a place to start with ideas, I have a blog address for you, which is one created by a couple doing just what you are planning. The only thing is that they haven't posted since about April, so I don't know if they are still at it or not. Here is their blog website.
I went back and read all of their entries and found them to be interesting and with some great photos. If you go down below their blog archive to the right of the blog entry area, you will find a reference to "Our Truck Camper" and will find some of the things they have added to their slide-in to enhance their lifestyle.
