I'm selling our current 42' New Horizons Majestic and building a new one.

This rig is built to be a fulltimers dream rig - we spared no expense when we built it, and we have 11 years fulltiming experience that went into its details. If you are looking for a luxury 5er this is a golden opportunity to get one that has been debugged but is still essentially new. We took delivery in February 2010, so it is less than 2 years old. The price is substantially reduced over a new one, of course.

The price is very good for someone wanting this type of rig. You would pay as much for a Doubletree, and not get as much. (Not that Doubletree rigs are not good. They are very nice. Just not near what this uniti is.)

And the truck could be purchased as well - but through Wayland Long at 2L Custom Trucks. If you want to know more about a custom truck you can talk to me about it.

It is fun to build the new ones! I get to fix the things I overlooked the first time, and get the benefit of whatever NH added to the rig.

For those wondering why we are building another unit..... This one is two model years old, and is unit #8. MANY things have changed in the rigs since this one was built. Because we show our rig constantly to potential buyers it is advantageous to NH and us for our rig to be fairly new. Otherwise, we would not be changing the rig at this point. We are very happy with this unit. It is more a business decision to change, than anything else.

There will be a new "build" section on my website early next year. It will detail the new rig. I do this at the risk of discouraging a buyer from purchasing our current rig. But I think it is important to document the process and changes we make in order to help others that may be buying a New Horizons - either through us, or directly working with the factory.

Anyone that wants to see the new one, it will be at the RV-Dreams rally in Kerrville, TX in mid-April. And then in Woodland Park for the summer. And of course at the HDT Rally in the fall. Next winter we will cross the south and SW with the new rig showing it at upscale RV parks. I'll publish a schedule sometime this summer. And we "may" be at the Escapees Escapade.

And, of course, our new "ultimate hauler" (with smart car) from 2L Custom Trucks will be accompanying the 5er So you can see them both at once.....

Just one question or maybe two.......

1.  How restricted are you on where to "camp"?  I would assume you stick mostly to newer private RV resorts where there is enough space for a rig that large.   You must need lots of room to back that thing into a camp site.

2.  How difficult is it to maneuver the rig through city traffic and make right turns at tight intersections?

Thanks for posting so much detail on your website.  The photos and detailed descriptions and explanations are wonderful for seeing and understanding the layout and construction.

We still have dreams of getting back into RVing, but thinking more along the lines of a HitchHiker 35'-37' 5th wheel that would be suitable for full-timing.

I know this was a question to Jack and I am sure he will respond.  But from an old semi-driver's perspective a couple of comments if I may:

First, Jack’s rig and mine too for that matter, is as long as the maximum length allowed for a semi from the past years.  The old max length was 55 feet but now is much longer in almost all states.  My rig is that long and without the Jeep Jack’s is that length or longer.  Rest assured they can make those right turns if you know how and obviously learn what to watch for.  Actually with a true semi “tractor” like Jack has he can turn it sharper than a pickup truck because the semi’s front wheel “cut” is actually sharper than a pickup’s.  This allows you to “jack it” in a very tight turn.

I won’t try to explain it fully here, but there is a technique where you actually, during a turn, backup the tractor (or pickup) just a bit and get a harder cut on the turn before going forward again.  Much of it has to do with technique, using mirrors and planning ahead.  Something anyone with normal driving skills can learn and would be very helpful even if you’re total rig length isn’t 55 feet or more.  Makes getting into CG sites easier or in some cases possible.

Most of the time the limitation is with mountain roads, IMO, not right turns; but with switchback type roads in the mountains where it is physically impossible to keep the rig in your lane in turns even if it is a pickup with a smaller 5er.  Those roads are becoming less of a problem as they are rebuilt but are worth a comment.

It really has not been a problem with either my 38' Royals International, or the 42' New Horizons. I don't attempt to go into small forest service campgrounds. But I pretty much go anywhere else I want to. Sometimes I have to park the truck somewhare else - but that is VERY infrequent....maybe a handful of times in the last 9 years pulling with the tractor.

As Bill said, the tractor has lots more maneuverability than a pickup. Plus it has the added bonus of having the hitch well behind the axle line - in my case it is a 3.5' (feet) behind the axle...but having it 5' or more is fine. On my new truck it will be at least 5' behind the axle. You can not do that on a pickup. What this does for maneuving is amazing. First, the trailer tracks more true to the truck wheels in a turn. Second, when backing you can make the trailer jacknife almost instantly - like a bumper pull trailer.

I can routinely get into spots that pickups can not, even with their trailer being 5'-8' shorter. I make up for some of the additional length with maneuverability. But you still need to be a little concerned with where you go. It does not seem to limit me much, though.

As to tricks....in a REALLY tight spot you can reverse the truck, and have the trailer go forward. :) Think about that one....

Sort of the practical demonstration of the fact that “you can put a trailer in places you may not be able to extract it from” simply due to the geometry – or more likely someone parking across from your space.  J  When I park I always think in terms of being able to leave and how that will be accomplished before I select a spot.  Comes from the old days with the "big rig" I guess.

Yes sir.  True in all regards and the thing is “you” built the rig and that means a great deal as to it being a double quality rig.  Far superior to almost anything you could get in a MS due to your overseeing the construction. (Been there - seen that.)

If we needed / wanted one, yours would be our first choice because “I” wouldn’t have to do what you did to get it built to that level of detail and capability.  We’re just so “content” with what we have.  It’s just “home” now that we’ve added so much to it. 

But if anyone is looking at a new rig in the top-of-the-line department, with features most don’t even know how to ask for let alone get properly constructed; they really should consider this rig.  Seriously

New Horizons has my 2010 at the factory, basically on consignment. The deal I did on this one is that we (them and us) would sell it. Next time will be different.

Next time I will pre-sell this rig BEFORE building the new one. Thus this rig will be for sale sometime in the future. But I we won't build again until this one is sold. 

At the moment, I have two people interested, but no money in hand yet. So if you are thinking about it...think harder.

We are headed to the HDT Rally in Hutchinson, KS. While there I will bring the 2010 New Horizons down from the plant to show. I'm also going to reduce the price significantly from the current $116,900. SO anyone that is interested, consider this a "Rally Special". You won't find a nicer coach that can be pulled with an F450 in this price range.

Also, anyone in the area of Hutchinson, KS that wants to attend the HDT Rally and learn about HDTs and other tow vehicles, as well as issues and technology related to fulltiming shold consider attending. You can stay on the fairgrounds or in a local motel. We invite all - even if you have no RV or have a motorhome.

If my prayers get answered, we will finally sell the house this year and be ready to buy our new home on wheels.  Currently strongly considering DRV or NH.  I may be very interested in yours.  Can you please keep me on your list when you're ready to sell?
