Since going F/T six months ago,our only real "missed" convenience from our house has been a proper oven. We have had RV's most of the 43 yrs of our marriage, and knew that RV ovens are problematic, but thought we'd find way to adjust.Even with all the good advice in this forum about how to improve oven performance,we kept burning everything on the bottom. We saw a demo of this Breville "Smart" convection oven and decided to try it. It's pricey @$250.00 but it works perfectly. Comes with its own set of pans, will do a 13" pizza, cookies, cakes, roasts, you name it.Baked rolls with it this morning! For us a perfect solution. It measures 18"x12.5x 9.5. The counter space it uses we compensated for by adding a stove top cover board. We saved the box,and will store it under the rig when we move. The "Smart" feature allows you to select what you are cooking, and the oven sets the temp and time.It also does toast, roasts, and broils. No you can't cook a turkey, but you can do a turkey breast or chicken,or small meat roast. Wanted to share this,in case some others are looking for an alternative to the propane oven. Works for us,very happy with it.

Thanks for the tip. I will look into it. like you the one thing I am missing after fulltiming for 2 months is the oven. I have the darndest time lighting it so haven't done much more than a bunch of cookies!
Hope this is a good solution.

Nick from the Gypsy Journal got one of those recently . . .looks very nice. Connie and I are planning on getting one and skipping the standard oven in our 5ver . . .multiple uses make this very attractive. The key for us was that the standard RV oven doesn't have a broiler . . .which means you can't properly cook your steak. You could grill of course . . .or toss it in a cast iron skillet on the stovetop . . .but that isn't quite the same.

While I know nothing about the Breville, our Mobile Suites has an Amana range and oven and according to the resident cook (definitely not me) it does have a broiler.

I researched these carefully. ALL of them have temp regulation issues. Other than that, they seem to do the job well. I recommend that you put in a separate oven thermometer to see how far yours is off. Once you know, it should be easy to compensate.

Strange . . .I specifically asked the folks about this during the factory tour and they said no broiler. It was an Amana range top in the Elite Suites we were touring through at the time . . .I asked because I looked inside and didn't see a broiler element. Typically there is a single burner in a gas stove that's under the oven compartment and the broiler comparment is underneath that . . .so that means 2 doors.
I guess I'll have to ask them again . . .

Hey, I'm just an old fogey who can't cook. I could have sworn that Jo said ours had one, but I looked just now and don't see how there could be. I'll ask her again tomorrow since she has gone to bed already. I may be thinking of what someone else told me.

My waistline does not want a broiler in our RV. If we had one Diane or I would be tempted to make my grandmother's almond torte since it needs the top browned by a broiler.

Can't you just use a plumber's torch? :)

A torch requires a steady hand and is it easy to mess up. Not a good situation to put either of us in. Plus we don't carry a torch and would not need it for anything else.

Hi Richard,
We too have a Braville Convection Toaster Oven and I absolutely love it. I've always hated toaster ovens in the past but this is way beyond any I'd ever used.
I bake pies in it, small roasts, we use it for a toaster, and it's used daily. I especially like using it in our S & B home in the summer as it doesn't heat up the whole kitchen.
Bought it at Williams Sonoma (?sp) even though I found less expensive ones online. They guarantee the products and the lower elements went out on mine the 2nd week I had it. Called them they sent a new one before they sent a call tag for the original one.
I've never had a temperature issue while baking, not sure what that's about from Jacks post.
If we ever go full time, I've planned to take it with me. One item I would never leave behind.

I guess we have been sitting still too long since we had time to think about what we wanted. On Monday UPS delivered our Breville Smart Oven from Amazon. We got the 800 model that costs $250 and can do a 13" pizza. So far it has been used as a toaster and it does much better than the toaster we were using. Diane has plans for it. We have a microwave/convection and do bake in it, but somehow whenever we bake we end up waiting for the oven to cool because we need to use the microwave. Now that problem is solved. The Breville does need a 20AMP breaker since it pulls 1800watts as a toaster. In our case we cannot run the Breville and microwave at the same time since they are both on the inverter/charger subpanel and it can only handle 30AMPs.
We think we know how to secure it for travel and we will know in a couple weeks when we move.

We are still enjoying ours very much. Pizzza, small roasts, etc., no problem & evenly cooked.Haven't used the LP oven since we got the Breville. We are giving serious considerstion to replacing the LP oven with a drop-in cooktop and using the space under the cook-top to store the Breville. We have a local RV shop which has done interior mods for us in the past,so we'll see what they say. We bought ours @ Williams Sonoma, have had no issues, but it is good to know they stand by what they sell.

Love the idea of replacing your LP oven and adding a drop in cooktop. We are currently in Desert Hot Springs, California (82 degrees today!) and the campers next to us (delightful Canadians) have a small oven, don't know the brand, on a table outside their TT....now there's an idea. Store it where your oven was then place outside as needed!

On my website here you will see a project to replace the oven in our Royals International with a cooktop.
And here you will see a replacement of an RV cooktop with a residential cooktop in our 2010 New Horizons. Just scroll down to the pictures for the 2010. Revision of the Cooktop.

Jack, Thank you so much for the photos & description of the oven swap and cabinet work. Just what we had in mind. We actually have two extra cabinet doorfronts which we are hoping they can use, but the black plexiglas would work as well. Big help, thanks again.

Yesterday we had a direct comparison between our Breville Smart Oven (we have the larger one) and our friend's Oster that looks similar, but cost much less. We were heating up frozen focassia that we had experience heating in our Breville. No comparison. Heating them took longer at the same temperature setting and they did not warm as evenly in the Oster. We are definitely spoiled by the Breville and no longer use our convection/microwave as an oven.

Gene, will be interested to see how you like it. Managed to get our Breville in the new 5th wheel in the pantry slide out shelf that has an outlet. Will be great to have it with us! Use it all the time.
