The other day I responded to a topic on the iRV2 forum about someone who was trying to figure out a way to make a short 50 amp extension cord without spending a lot of money. This Summer I had a cable connection go bad and before I could get new ends I found a new cable at a reasonable price. I thought I would make the old cable into an extension and bought the appropriate end. It had been sitting in my van for many months so I offered this cable and cable end to the poster on iRV2 for $50 (the bargain of the Century). I was scolded and warned about selling on this forum (seriously?). I tried to explain that I was offering an extraordinarily deal to their readers and added a few choice words. Well, as would be expected from this "for profit only" site, I got a note today that I have officially been banned from the site for the next 3 months. I have requested that my account be deleted as I have no intention of returning and I suggest that others make the same choice. iRV2 has been trying to get $1000/year from me to be a sponsor (then I call sell whatever I like) but I have always declined. I guess greed has gotten the best of them!

FWIW. I respectfully don't think that because some one structures there business plan in a way that attempts to contain the selling of items in the appropriate area (the classifieds) they should be considered GREEDY. I have been a Happy Member of IRV2 for many years and have gotten some good camaraderie there. I will agree that a four month Ban instead of a warning for trying to sell an item in the wrong forum is a bit harsh, but I can't help but think there is a little more to the story...G

Bill, I'm guessing it may have been your "few choice words" that may have gotten you banned? I know iRV2 is pretty strict about folks selling stuff anywhere other than in their classified section. Maybe a more appropriate response would have been to write the OP a private message with your offer?

I don't know about Bills particular circumstances, but I have had similar problems with that forum in the past and no longer post there. In my case they banned me for putting a link to my "commercial website" in my signature line. First, my website is not commercial. At the time this happened I did not even have google ads on my site - which I do now. No warning....just a ban.
Now, I suspect the real purpose, brought out in emails with the moderator, was the fact they did not like my offering of HDT information. They objected to HDTs being used as tow vehicles at the time....that was 5 or more years ago. Subsequent to that I got flamed by their moderators in emails.
It is their forum and they can do as they wish. But in practice I have found that they did not follow their own rules. No matter -- I can (and did) go elsewhere.

I suspect you are correct! I did tell them that I would contact the OP by PM and that might have been why they banned me to prevent me from doing so. I also told them how little I cared that I had been warned as they were way out of line deleting that kind of a post when it was clearly an offer in kind designed to save the poster a bunch of money over what it would have cost to do it any other way. No worries, I have deleted the link to the site and I am right with myself which is all that's necessary for me.

Bill, Please don't take this the wrong way, but heheheheheh, I have been BANNED from half a dozen sites for speaking my mind, or for offering a solution to the op for a small fee, shipping, etc. Some people who own Forums hate when they think they are losing a dollar ( no offense intended Howard and Linda) because they think someone else is getting over on them. That is 1 reason that the Dodge owners Forum site was founded. It is about Dodge products, primarly about the Cummins powered trucks, but open to all Dodge products.. several members were banned from other forums for saying, NO, if you do that this wil happen, you need this part instead. Trying to help people with their problem but being penalized for it.

Well, I'll chime in here for a couple of reasons.
First, we have friends over at iRV2 and several of our readers frequent that forum. It's a good RVing Forum and friendlier than some of the others for the most part. I'll also say that enforcing a very strict, "no exceptions" policy is much easier than something more subjective like we do here, even though it may seem unreasonable in certain cases.
Second, since this has been brought up, I went ahead and posted our policy with regard to selling in our Guidelines & Suggestions sub-forum. Hopefully, it will provide a little clarification.
This also gives me the opportunity to once again thank the members of the RV-Dreams Forum. We have had occassional, although brief, lapses, but I still proudly think this is the friendliest RV Forum on the web. And, at the same time, our members have shown that we can discuss sensitive topics and can disagree with civility, diplomacy, and respect. Thank you!

Bill,
I am presently banned from IRV2.com as well.
I got banned for continuing a discussion (via private messaging to the admin - NOT online) of what I considered heavy handed moderating.
With each request for more information (via private message) on why I was given "demerit" points for a particular post of mine, a received a short terse response and another "demerit" point. This went back and forth for a few days. Yesterday I tried to log on and got a notice that my account was banned for two weeks for "repeated rules violations"!
I love the content of the board and have been an active contributor for five years but on a few occasions have had a post edited or deleted my a moderator for minor inadvertent infractions of their rules. This last time I challenged them to explain themselves and apparently THAT is a violation as well.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if I've just racked up another point for this post. LOL
I'm going to have to look elsewhere for my RV forum needs, IRV2.com is just a bit too arrogant in their relationship with their users.

Yep, that's pretty much how it goes. I have never had a public dispute with the moderators, it's always been by PM. I thought we could openly disagree via PM no dissension is allowed. It's agree or be banned even when it's a private discussion between 2 adults.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least. I get the feeling it's like a tight nit little club and if you're not on the inside... My last go round with them was really disturbing. I'm glad to see I'm not alone. After providing the board with five years of what I felt were useful answers, comment and content (illustrated how-to's, etc,), it was upsetting to be treated like that and "banned".

I just discovered this forum and I have been a member of IRV2. I have followed Bill and Jack on other forums, too. In fact, I got a lot of input on the basic design of my motor home internet connections from Jack on the Escapees forum and his web page (thanks Jack).
I guess I'm not controversial enough. I have never gotten a warning or had a post deleted (that I noticed). They have gone a bit overboard, in my opinion, worried about guns, religion, and politics. Other than that, I enjoy that forum as much as I enjoy the others.
I tried to sell something in their classified once, but it was more trouble than it's worth with the 15 day expiration. Not sure how many people even look there. I know I didn't. I will continue to enjoy this forum, that one, and the others that I frequent.

I'm not a member there and won't be. But from the little reading I've done, its "my way" or your BANNED! I usually don't disturb the pile, but when I do its usually for a very good reason. There are several forums that I'm on, Rv'ing, Boats, trucks, etc. I've been put on suspension several times when a PM was sent by the receiver to a MOD who then contacted me. Thats when I have a habit of telling people various things they don't like to hear. From what I have seen here, arguements are allowed, as long as its kept decent. I can handle that..

I headed over to IRV2.com today since I thought my two week ban had been lifted only to find that my ban status has been changed to "forever"!
Since I've been banned for two weeks and couldn't have possibly been on their forum, apparenly they do read other forums and assign punishments based on your posts outside of IRV2.com.
I wonder if thier advertisers are in agreement with those policies?

THIS is not their forum and they should not dole out punishment for speaking my mine here. They can do what they want on THIER forum but they will have to live with the consequences. IRV2.com may not care what thier users think of them but thier advertisers certainly care what image they portray to their customers. It is a very connected world we live in and if you treat people badly, it will come back on you eventually.

I find it offensive, not at all funny. Hunting down my posts on another forum (matching IP's etc.) is an invasion of privacy and an abuse of the information obtained from me as a member of thier board. I have directly contacted the advertisers on their forum that I am a customer of asking that they in turn contact IRV2.com.

On another forum (firearms related, not RV's), if one even talks about someone else being banned they are likely to ban the one talking about it.
Now, as a moderator here on the RV Dreams forums, all I have had to do is delete a post or two and ban the spammers. It is really a pleasure to deal with such good hearted and polite people.
That said, there is an "alter-ego" that I haven't been able to post in the threads yet. Haven't learned the details of doing that yet. I can get the link address and click on the image icon, but so far, I've not been able to show the "alter-ego."
So, I guess I'll just have to link to my Photobucket account for you to see it.
Since I access the internet via various sources (HughesNet, which is not trackable, Cellular and WiFi), I have already established another identify at iRV2 and the moderators have no way of knowing that this is the case. I contacted one of the regular posters on the site via PM to let him know what had happened and asked him to let folks know that I can no longer post there should they ask where I have been (I did not want him to actively post but rather respond to the question should it ever arise). I had not considered it, but I really like the idea of contacting the iRV2 advertisers. Thanks for that idea.

Used to be if you couldn't settle a dispute you went out behind the barn, now its who ever that has the best electronic devices gets the last word. I am just waiting for the day they make Drones affordable to the public. Then when someone says something we disagree with we just sit in front of our big screens, track them down and ZAP them with our lasers.
Its my opinion that all of these sites should allow a degree of disagreement (Flaming to a point). As hard as it is to admit, even I need to be brought back to earth sometimes.

Since my two week ban was supposed to be up and I was still unable to log onto IRV2.com, I re-registerd with a new name. After two days, I received this on log on.
You have been banned for the following reason: offthewall banned member registered (nice try)
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
A bit childish (nice try), but at least it confirmed that the lifetime ban was not a mistake, they intended to extend the two week ban to a lifetime ban for the posts made in this thread.
I have contacted four of their corporate sponsors that I have been doing business with for more years than IRV2.com has existed to inform them of the childish and vindictive nature in which they stalk user's travels to other forums and dole out punishments and personal attacks.

Yes that's one Forum with a lot of Deputies. I've been banned for six months after responding to somebodies post asking about POR15 for rust protection. I mentioned it is an awesome product that is why I am a dealer up here. I doubt very much anybody is going to start ordering from Canada to ship down to the U.S. when the product is already in the U.S. (that's where it's made). I've been banned for having my company website in my signature. I'm not trying to sell any services or products it was there for informative purposes. I've helped a lot of people with questions and issues concerning various mechanical situations. Then on comes the Deputies with their power trip and................"YOU'RE BANNED".
If you check out some of their posts, most of them are absolutely useless and I believe it's just to keep up their "Post Count" to be King.

For what is worth, (and probably nothing,) I also think that IRV2 is maybe too strict, but I can live with that. But at least, they are very consistent in their moderation, and their rules. As is this forum.
Other forums including a big one with RV in its name, has very inconsistent, and fickle moderation. Say something that is well within the rules, but that particular moderator does not like it, and POOF, your post is completely removed, including from you personal “My Post” list, as if it never existed. Closing a thread is moderation, complete removal, in my opinion, is censorship.
What is acceptable depends on the individual moderator, and his or her mood.
I have written proof, as I copied the posts before they were completed deleted. Yes, some were mine but some were other posters. I E-mailed the CEO, whom actively solicits e-mails. After 9 e-mails and almost a month, the CEO decided to do nothing. O.K. by me, they own the forum, but his lack of action told me all that I needed to know.

That's exactly what got me banned. I took a disagreement with a moderator offline to private messaging. I was banned for two weeks for disagreeing politely with him. He said A, I stated B. I was banned. It was that simple. When I went to log back in after two weeks, I was banned for life with no recourse for further discussion.
I put a lot of time into posting detailed, illustrated how-to's over the years on that forum. Then then one moderator got something stuck up his rump and banned me and my home and office IP's for life. I'm not even able to look at my own how-to's for reference from my home or office. Interestingly if any of the other 100 workers from my office wanted to view IRV2.com, they would be unable to since the office IP is banned.

If I don't like a forum and disagree with the moderation, I quit. I have never had any attraction to IRV2 so one can surely exist without them. I was asked to be a moderator on a non-RV website, one that has several moderators since it has many, many members and encompasses just about every subject under the sun. I was planning to limit going to the website because of a couple of issues, one being that the moderators were extremely liberal, my total opposite and it was causing an "imbalance" there. When I read the through all of the moderator guidelines, I was shocked. It was nonsense to me. Points for infractions and how if you ban them for the 3 days in the beginning that it often took care of the problem because they didn't like not being able to post. What it sounded like to me was guidelines for a daycare center! I wanted no part of that. They did say that if I were interested after reading the materials, they would need to discuss some other policies I would have to agree with. I can imagine. I have a "status" under my screen name which is not "liberal" and my blogs which allow much more flexibility reflect my conservative viewpoints. So, I was thinking as a moderator, they might try to put a "leash" on me. I declined. The thing is, as a moderator, you have to enforce the rules that are set forth and play what appears to be complicated games with people who get out of line in the opinion of those that made the rules.
I can think of one forum that I used to go to and I swear there are a handful that are going through their 2nd childhood or never finished with their first ones. They really ruin the forum for everyone else because they insist on bickering over the slightest things, often the same things again and again over time. Another one, I think the moderator has just been in place too long and her moderation is so lop-sided that it is too irritating to bother going there. If I want to be stressed out, I can just listen to the news!
Obviously, if you are posting on one forum about another, someone is being a tattle tail, probably someone that isn't your best friend. My advice is not to waste your time and energy on a forum that doesn't fit your personality and beliefs. Life is too short for such grief!

Many of these forums are web searchable so I don't join, just do internet searches and read what people say. It also works for many forums, like FMCA, that you have to be a member to post but can read much of the info without joining. But, if you join and get banned, or your IP gets banned, you can't read the forum. Unfortunately not everyone is good at web searches, so this technique does not work for them. Plus many are convinced that their question is new and no one has ever asked it before, so they have to join to ask their question.
There are many petty dictators out there, some become forum moderators. I like this forum, the main rule is "be nice".

Thank you!

I have posted to various forums for over 10 years and I have never seen anything like iRV2!
:)
If you had stated that opinion in any way, shape or form on IRV2.com or in private messages to the moderators, you would have received your demerits :)
I put it in the For Sale section here, BTW, in case anyone is interested.
The Spammer Hammer
(I can just feel the fear out there now.)
Terry
Bill, I should go and check my status there. I do have a user name.....maybe I'm banned as well for even participating in this conversation :)
On edit - well my password and user name seems locked somehow....

Isn't today's technology just wonderful, how would we ever get along without it? Used to be if you couldn't settle a dispute you went out behind the barn, now its who ever that has the best electronic devices gets the last word. I am just waiting for the day they make Drones affordable to the public. Then when someone says something we disagree with we just sit in front of our big screens, track them down and ZAP them with our lasers.
Its my opinion that all of these sites should allow a degree of disagreement (Flaming to a point). As hard as it is to admit, even I need to be brought back to earth sometimes.
I have this irrestible urge to go to that other site and stir the pot al little.
Having access to about 9 computers should keep their hands busy.
Anybody want me to say hello?
Also, despite many different computers, they track your IP address so if you connect with anothercomputerr to the same internet connection you will still be blocked/banned.
I usually ghost around over there and have seen so many BS replies.
Thats funny though "Roach" is my last name!
Why would you want to stir the pot? If you disagree with these people and their agenda, just stay away from their site. Bill has made his point, and I doubt he needs anyone riding his coattails.
Since my two week ban was supposed to be up and I was still unable to log onto IRV2.com, I re-registerd with a new name. After two days, I received this on log on.
You have been banned for the following reason:
offthewall banned member registered (nice try)
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
A bit childish (nice try), but at least it confirmed that the lifetime ban was not a mistake, they intended to extend the two week ban to a lifetime ban for the posts made in this thread.
I have contacted four of their corporate sponsors that I have been doing business with for more years than IRV2.com has existed to inform them of the childish and vindictive nature in which they stalk user's travels to other forums and dole out punishments and personal attacks.

I for one would never want or admit a membership to any club where a problem or actions of a member are not discussable.....
a club or forum cannot be dictated to .........its board is worthless without members.......and members without say dont belong to a club
All the sites I have visited have not had the comraderies , and family atmospere that is found here , and I did alot of searching
I guess its like anything, to much of a good thing or authority will always ruin the way things should better themselves
I guess IRV2 really doesnt have a board.......just the warden and his cronnies!!!!
It mentions our EVERGREEN owners and wannabe group on Yahoo.
Needless to say I removed myself and will never go back.
If you check out some of their posts, most of them are absolutely useless and I believe it's just to keep up their "Post Count" to be King.
IRv2......is a morning staple for me , alot of good info is gleaned from there , the nice thing is you dont need to be a member.

One thing tho........if you have had a problem there , voice that problem there and try to solve it with them. or dont do business there.......Bad mouthing them elsewhere is just as bad as being part of them.
I just learned a few things here on this forum......just from reading this post......

Offthewall,
As they say in New Orleans, YEA YOU RIGHT.
I gave up on IRV2 long ago,
Merry Christmas ya'll.
CCC
I too am banned from irv2. A month!
My ban was for unknowingly doing the same thing I see others do and get away with. It's unfortunate.
I like that site as well and had been a "paying" member for 4 years. Guess all a guy can do is his penance and move on.
Your month just turned into a Lifetime ban by posting here. :)
That's what happened to me.
Welcome Les. Yeah I was banned from there for 6 months. They say I was promoting my business. All I did was comment on POR-15 as being a great product, as I sell it...........Then BAMM, I was finished. I was even a paying member. The "Big Moderator Police" are a bunch of useless "posters". They post a bunch of useless crap to bring their post count up and look important. Had a lot of headbutting with that SarahW a lot. Finally just ignore the troll.
Cheers,
Bernie
