We've got a Chevy Trailblazer that is rear wheel drive. We have to keep it because it's about paid for. Has to be either dollied rear wheels up - or modified for flat towing. I don't want to go the full car trailer route, and I've read that rear wheels up is a dangerous way to tow. We'll be towing with a '98 36ft MH. What kind of cost are we looking at to have the transmission pump installed along with the tow bar setup and lights? And are tow bars universal, as in when we need to replace the toad, is it useable on any car?

Not sure on the transmission pump, but the tow bar, lights and braking system for the toad will run around 2K. Deepends on the brand you buy and the bells and whistles you want. This does not include installation which if you're mechanically inclined you can do yourself.
Tow bars are universal except for the mounts on the toad. When you change to a different toad you'll need to purchase new brackets for the new toad. These brackets are in the $300 to $400 range.

I would suggest that you look into a drive-shaft disconnect instead of a pump. We have towed with the Remco disconnect (pricey but worth it!) for over 10 years. The only thing turning when you tow is the rear wheels and differential so no added miles and no issues with the transmission.

Ken, Thanks. That's what I needed to know.
Thanks, Bill. At the moment nobody seems to have the disconnect available. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe when we're ready in 2-3 months they'll be back up.
