Tomorrow we pick up a used 2008 Mobile Suites. The unit is "as-is" no warranty included. The dealer sells extended warranties thru Interstate.
The Basic warranty covers the appliances, water system, waste system, propane system, brakes, suspension. Cost is $2755 for only 2 years.
Basic Plus adds coverage for the leveling system, slide outs, seals/gaskets. This costs $3500 for 4 years.
These warranties seem expensive to me, but I haven't purchased an RV warranty before, so I don't have an experience to compare to. Also, I've never had an RV with slides or leveling system so I don't know how costly those are to repair. Please share your opinion - are these warranties reasonably priced or too expensive?
Thank you so much for your help!!

I agree with GeneCop. Although I've heard of folks that have benefited from their warranties it's definitely a gamble. The insurance company is gambling that you won't have a claim and your premium payment will be all profit for them. You're gambling that the cost of repairs would be more than your premium paid. My take on it is that if the insurance companies paid out more than they took in then they'd be bankrupt in no time. Therefore odds are on your side that you won't benefit from the extended warranty.

I'd take the money the waranty cost and put in a bank account and draw on it if you have a problem. Contribute a small amount to this account monthly. The chances you would have numerous large repair bills in a 2 year period are small.

Interesting points - I pretty much agree. Always got the extend warranty on cars and never once use them. Rvs are perhaps more prone to more chances of problems. However that said - how many people have life insurance? If you do, You are betting that you'll die and they are betting you'll live and pay lots in premiums. :>)

The numbers quoted seem very expensive to me...we paid the same amount for a 7 year plan on our coach. There are other companies who sell warranties, do some shopping around and see if you can find something, if you think you want an warranty.
We are currently having our 4 door Norcold replaced, extended warranty is covering the cost, $5.4k and I pay shipping to get the Norcold to my dealer. The Norcold 1210LRIM cost almost $4.5k and the rest is labor to remove the old one, via the windshield, and install the new one. Just wanted to point out that some items are very expensive to fix or repair. Shops now charge well over $100/hr labor. To each his own, but I am very glad we purchased the extended warranty on our coach.

Also go talk to some local RV repair places and ask what they think of "Interstate". You can get an extended warranty yourself and save the commision the dealer is getting. The dealer is making money selling you the warranty, it is actually an insurance plan. One warranty company I know that sells direct that a repair place really likes is United States Warranty.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I think that the warranty the dealer is offering is too expensive. Not sure if we want a warranty at all, but I am going to look into independant companies & see what is offered.
