Hi, Folks. We are the Youngs, Rick and Mary Kay. Home base is NE Florida . Our house is in Fernendina Beach and we spend 5 days a week in Orange Park (Jacksonville) so Mk is close to her office. At present we're living in a Citation 27-R TT in a funky little place called Whitey's Fish Camp. Rick is retired on disability and Mary Kay is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice.
Our RV dream involves a fifth wheel, retirement and full time travel.
While shopping for a new pair of Crocks at the St. Augustine Outlet Mall yesterday, we set aside time to browse through Camping World. (our favorite cheap recreation). Long story short, we came home with a new pair of Crocks........and a contract on a 2009 DRV Select Suites fiver. We're keeping our fingers, toes and various other appendages crossed that the financing goes through for a delivery next week.
The dream is looking more real and we're both looking forwrd to sharing and picking brains here on this very cool site.
Cheers
Rick & Mary Kay

Welcome. Rick and Mary Kay.
Like Doris and Dave, we are also owners of a Mobile Suites. Ask away with questions both here and on SOITC's (Suites Owners International Travel Club) forums. That is the link that Doris and Dave provided. There are a lot of helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable people on both.
As for the truck, make sure you go looking with a good knowledge of the weights of the DRV so that you get a truck that is capable of handling that heavy of a coach. If you go to SOITC's website, look for a category there entitled "DT Weights and Balance" and look for the thread entitled "2010 Weight Chart."
There is information there provided by a gentleman that weights RV's at rallies and such and he gives a breakdown of weights of the different units he has weighed over the years. Pay close attention to the bottom where he states that 100% of the single rear wheel (SRW) trucks were overweight and 60% of the dual real wheel (DRW) were overweight.
In other words, look carefully at all the information that you can gather on the weight capacities on GVWR and GCVW. All of the weights in his document are on DRV products.

Thank y'all for the words of welcome. We should know in a few days if the bank will cooperate. I'll be checking out the weights page carefully. I'll be looking for an older (2000. ish) F350 super duty with my beloved 7.3l turbo diesel. We're currently running an F250 SD with the 7.3 and manual tranny, but I know tha's not enough truck for the Select Suites.

Welcome Rick and Mary Kay, Welcome to the best forum in the RV world. It all starts with a dream, then a plan. Only free advice I can offer is to check the weight figures closely to make certain the F-350 is enough truck for the Mobile Suite. You will notice many of the Mobile Suite owners on this forum have a bit more truck. Choose wisely and travel safe.

Welcome Rick and Mary Kay!
We too have a F250 SD 7.3 diesel - '97 Super Cab and our current 5r is a '00 Holiday Ramber 34SKT. Ken hates to give up Bessie but need a larger truck for the residential style of 5rs. That said,we'll be upgrading to a dually F450 and a new Crossroads Redwood within the next couple of years.

I had a retired Ford engineer tell me recently that from 1998-2002, the F250/350/450 were identical in build except for the suspension. I'm thinking that an F350 of that vintage with the 7.3 would only need a set of air bags to haul durn near anything.
I'll be investigating that in the next couple of months.
Part of the deal we're hoping to finalize this week includes delivery and pick up of our trade.

Yep, Whitey's is a bit funky, but a neat place and close to good shopping. Next time we are out for some conch fritters at Whitey's, we will look to see if your TT is there. Enjoy!

Since some of the others mentioned you having a Mobile Suites, I'll clarify a bit by saying that the F350 might very well be good for handling your Select Suites, as they are a bit lighter. But, still be sure and check the weight capacities of the truck to make sure.
