Hello folks , my wife and I are excited for our maiden voyage shortly. We have just sold our 40' park model and have purchased a new to us 2009 Gulfstream 36' 5th wheel. I'm sure we'll be posting many questions for you seasoned travellers ! :)

Aurie,
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks here dealing with just about every type of RV there is. For the most part, they are all friendly and willing to answer questions. Don't be surprised if you ask a specific question, but get other alternatives as well.
Good luck with the lifestyle.

Thank you Terry.
This may sound pretty basic for you guys ... but here in Ontario, on our major highways we have truck weigh stations .. I have to admit i've never paid enough attention to notice but is this for commercial vehicles only or any truck trailer combinations ? Also , when crossing the border if a lane is not specified for Rv's which do we use ?
thank you again !

Here in the states RV's do not stop at the truck weighing stations, they are for commercial vehicles only.
As for the border crossings I will go in any lane provided that they look to have enough vertical clearance. If not, I use the truck lane. I've been chastised a few times, but what are they going to do, I'm there already. :)

I will concur with Fred (Luvglass) on the check stations, except that I know nothing about the ones in Canada. For that answer, you may have to check with each province.
Oh, and Fred. Really like your new avatar. But, Jo may not appreciate it because it may attract the ladies.
(Just kidding.)

I guess I better know my height eh Fred ? LOL ... wasn't even thinking that one .. boy we have a lot to learn ! Janet and I plan on keeping it pretty simple this weekend .. We go to Buffalo to pick it up then haul it home .. my first test is crossing the Lewiston bridge then on up Hamilton mountain .. we say mountain but its just the steep pass of the Niagara escarpment. Still , should be a test of my pulling power.
