Good morning - I was wondering if any of ya'll had an opinion about the Ipad and Laptop.
I know we need a few basics: a camera, internet (obviously) and some kind of bookkeeping program.
The reason I even started thinking about the Ipad is because of it's ease to get connected.
We aren't hitting "the road" yet, but I want to be ready. For those of you who are out there seeing the country - how is the internet working for you? Do you have any suggestions or advice?
Programs like bookkeeping are not as common on iPad (or Android tablets to bring up the competition) since these devices are designed more for consuming content than doing a lot of writing and data entry. Of course when you say "bookkeeping" are you talking about for work or for personal finances?

An iPad is a great add-on if you have a computer but I can't imagine trying to go it alone with an iPad only. There are just too many things you can't do with the iPad that are very simple with a computer. As my primary connection I would have at least a netbook computer if you can something that's small and lightweight but if you want to do much in the way of bookkeeping I would suggest a small laptop with a good amount of memory.

I agree with Bill. I have both and find the iPad works well when on the road. Connection to internet is by Verizon MiFi. Think of an iPad as a smart phone without the phone and with a larger display than the phone.

Both are the way to go, 90% of the time we are on our IPad's, we do still however carry a Dell laptop.....

I have an Iphone, Ipad, laptop and notebook... my choice for flexibilty would be a laptop. I can get whatever program I need, great internet, CD/DVD player & burner, hook up auxiliary devices easily, key board is always ready to use and it does everything the Ipad & Notebook does.
I do however use my Iphone more than any other device. It's handy, easy to use and the only real complaint is the small screen. If I could find an Iphone with a blowup screen for when I was using the internet or watching a movie, I would be happy.
I'm really surprised by how much I use my Iphone as if it was a PC or laptop.

We have both. We love the Ipad, we got it so we could both be on the internet at the same time and it works great for that but it has its limitations. It doesn't have the capability or types of programs you have on the laptop. Any real "work" like budgeting, documents, photo editing etc. we do on the computer. For the price, the IPad makes a great "second computer".

Thanks so much for all the input!! It has been very helpful.
As a side note - we moved out of the s&b and into the 5th wheel yesterday. Moving anywhere is hard work and we are exhausted. Not to mention the wonderful over 100 degree days we have had since June!!! Hopefully next summer will be spent north of the Texas border
