When our A/C kicks in, we get a mildew-like smell for the first few minutes of operation. It then dissipates. Anybody have this experience? What did you do to remedy the situation? Something got wet up there somewhere, I don't know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Start with filters, then open cover on roof, clear out drain way and inspect for debris....

I agree that you should start with the filters. But I would also make sure that the drain line is free of debris causing the drain to drain slow or not at all. If this is free, it would allow the moisture to exit the unit faster making it less likely to cause this smell.

Also look for buildup on the condenser tubes and fins. Sometimes you get a white chalky looking build up if there has been a lot of moisture. Use a sponge with vinegar on it to wipe everything down. Be gentle you don't want to bend the fins.
