We plan to visit Glaicer NP the first two weeks in September and have heard they close the camp grounds that time of year. I am looking for suggestions for a camp gound out side the park. We like to boondock, but don't mind resonably priced camp grounds. We will also be visiting Yellowstone after that, do you know if those camp grounds will also be closed? We will camp in a 32 foot Class A with a toad.
Thanks for any help.

We are near Yellowstone now and heard that the Going to the Sun Highway most likely will not open this year due to snow (have not confirmed this). Glaicer NP is a beautiful place. Yellowstone has several campgrounds inside the park, some have electric but most are dry camping. They start to fill around noon and all are filled up by late evening. We are heading down to Thayne, WY tomorrow and may come back up thru Jackson Hole and Yellowstone on our way up to Kalispell. Have fun.
We were planning to go to Glacier the last week of August and first week of September. But the campgrounds close first week of September and I want to stay inside the park.
Campgrounds there require boondocking and I'm not sure we can deal with lows in the 20's. How are you going to handle that?
Teton and Yellowstone each has an "RV Campground" but they are $46 and $64 a night respectively. All other campgrounds are boon docking. We will be there starting August 4 and running for 10 days each. Can let you know how that goes if you are interested.
We too are going up to Thayne and then to Teton and Yellowstone. Where are you staying in Thayne? Can you recommend a place??
We have a 34' with a toad. Sounds like we are all on the same page

Where are you getting the lows in the 20s from for the end of summer?

I've been watching the 20 day forecasts for Glacier on Weather.com since June and looked at the "monthly" table for August with what were supposed to be last years actual temperatures.
Tried to do that again today after your question and the monthly table for August was blank. But for the next 10 days they are predicting lows between 24 and 33. However looking at the monthly map for July shows that same prediction for the next 10 days but claims the "actual" highs for the past 10 days went up to 84 and the lows no lower than 51.
If you have a better source for weather data on Glacier than this. Please share it since this seems very sketchy today.

Weather Underground shows average highs of 75 and lows about 40 at the start of September and records around 95 and 30. I wonder where weather.com is counting, the high point on Going to the Sun? We stayed at a commercial campground in Hungry Horse, it was very close to the West Entrance. We like to stay inside the parks also, but when the commercial ones are almost as convenient we often stay at those.
This is where we stayed at when we went to Glacier NP. It was clean, and well maintained. Small RV Park and out in the quiet country. It is near Hungry Horse area but not sure just how close. Good Luck and enjoy Glacier.

Scubabeck. If you have a crazy long link it can throw off the ability to read a forum. You might consider go to www.tinyurl.com where I was able to turn your monster link into this: http://tinyurl.com/3ua5x54

@ Sherry....glad the link worked for you. It was a nice park....nothing on a grand scale but the peaceful surroundings were lovely after a long day of hiking trails and sight seeing. I voted thier fire pit as the most inventive one I have found anywhere.

@Bill I went to check out the site you mentioned and my spyware doctor gave me a block up announcing it has some sort of cookie, and blocked the site. It looks like a neat site but unfortunately I will stay away from it until I can get hubby to check it out for me before I'll use it. This keeps me out of trouble and keeps my husband sane.

Try this link Scubabeck, maybe your spyware doctor won't complain about a natural URL.

we live close to the pro (a few hours away) and NORMALLY you will be safe with the weather, BUT......you REALLY never know in Montana. The subject of boonocking is a bit different though as MANY places don't like that there, but there are some hidden places around including a few stores near and in Kalispell. Let me know if we can help ,and good uck. Brad & toni, Great Falls, mt

GOING TO THE SUN ROAD IS OPEN
We did it a few weeks ago. Dont miss it. We stayed in the town just west of the park, and I cannot recall the name, the log is not here rt now. Lots of cg's in the area, on the west side.
