We're sitting here outside of Washington DC,(Cherry Hill Park),and are now approaching our first month of full-time. Drove 2500 miles in eight days,staying here for 10 days total, then on to Florida,(Palm Harbor), (900+ mi.) for another 10 days,then back west,to arrive back in Las Vegas to our "static" spot, 'till June, when we can finally retire,after selling our business. We are limiting our driving for the duration of the trip to less than 250 mi per day. We may go to San Diego for a bit before returning to Vegas on 8/7, to get ready for work, once more.
It has been quite a tumultous two months, with the sale of the house and everything else, and undertaking this previously promised trip. So far, all has gone very well. We have been fortunate,indeed.Still a bit strange to realize that everything you own is being towed behind you, and the house is no more. An absolutely necessary part of our dream to travel/workcamp beginning in June, just a "different" feeling. We continue to make "adjustments" to where we put things, and have had much wonder at how it is possible to forget where you put something,in such close quarters.
We're glad we found this group to share with and learn from. I seriously doubt we'd be at this point in our lives, without all of your help and support.

With an attitude like that, you will continue to have a GREAT TIME. The 250 miles per day is a good goal, however, I have sometimes gone much more to reach a goal. Remember, after retirement, you ain't on vacation no more. Take it easy.

we are at the end of four months and i target 250 but will do 350 if i can get an early start... learned that it takes at least 2 weeks to really get to know a place...

Richard/Ginny, I too can remember the feeling of driving down the highway with all our earthly possessions behind us. Back then (1967) it was a transfer from Ft. Walters in Mineral Wells, TX to Homestead AFB in Homestead, FL. I was a private in the Army and our trailer was a 4x6 U-Haul. Today we are retired and practicing living in our fiver while our kids are visiting for the weekend. The visiting kids are using our bedroom in our home. Early 2012, we will head away from our home, our daughter will be renting our house and we will once again drive down the highway with what will become all our earthly possessions. You have a good mindset about this new life and yes, the folks on this board are the real deal. Travel safe.

This is a very small world. I was teaching in Mineral Wells @ Travis Elementary and driving 70 miles one way from Dublin Texas. When we moved to Tenn. I was so releaved to only drive 10 miles one way when we were living in the county here.
Mineral has changed I am sure from when you were stationed there. If you get chance go back and look at the town and see how it has changed. We did not want to move to Mineral Wells, we had just bought a house in Dublin and Mineral Wells is not what I call a very pretty town. I like the open and county setting.

Glad you had a safe trip and hope that all went well with the new Open Range. As for towing everything behind you that you own, I find that liberating, even though we aren't traveling yet.
Good luck with selling the business and seeing the beauty of the United States. There is an awful lot to see, and you are right in that one needs at LEAST two weeks to see most of what is in an area.

Margina, Yes, this is a small world. We actually drove thru Mineral Wells May 7th with our new to us fiver in tow. (Purchased from www.rollingretreats.com in Elk City, OK.) We hardly recognized the town and could not find the base at all. I had previously driven through there about 10 years ago. At that time, the base was an industrial park of some sort.

We are in our second month of being on the road. I hear you Richard. I have "lost" so much stuff that I know is in this 5er somewhere. How can somthing hide so well in such a small place.
I have reorganized my cupboards a few times and I think I am getting a handle on where stuff is. I have had more than a few "OHHHHH that is where I put that" moments.
We are enjoying the life and don't miss the S & B one bit.

Wow, we just started full timing June 1st also. Same weird feeling of everything (mostly) that is near & dear being along for the ride. And loosing things in a very small trailer - what am I doing wrong?? Yes, frequent reorganization, & culling out things I didn't need to keep, & finding duplicate items to combine into one. Our first workamping experience has gone thru several stages: wow, this is fantastic & easy - omg, I haven't worked this hard in years - oh, that wasn't so bad this week. Physical, emotional, & financial adjustments. But it's so much better than having a house to take care of! ~~ Glenda ~~
