We are planning to take another trip to Florida the last week of December through January. Anyone know of a good extended-stay campground in this area? We don't need a "resort".....just a nice area to park for a month with full hookups.

I am sure that there are many. I have never needed an extended stay but one of my favorites close to Disney is Tropical Palms. You can call and see if they have a monthly rate during their prime season.

Thanks Bill.....I called Tropical Palms.....they are extremely expensive.....$1,000-$1,600 for a month's stay!!! It's very nice looking....we don't need a place quite that elaborate!

There is a Carefree park down in Lakeland that was very nice we spent a couple of weeks there over Christmass last year. I don't remember the name off the top of my head but they tend to be basic campgrounds / sites.

Melanie, how close to DW? I know of a few places about 40 miles north--in Eustis, One called Southern Palms--there are others around that area, I can't recall the names right now--but family that stayed at So. palms liked it, they both made reservations to go back and seemed to be quite satisfied with the park. A little drive to get to DW but not bad at all.

Melanie,
There is a wonderful county owned park (many acres with a large lake) that has a campground within it. We stayed there and very much loved it. It is not large and has electricity and water at the sites with a dump station nearby. There is a frisbee golf course, a large lake, lot's of area to walk and it is only about 8 to 10 miles from Mouse World.
As it is a county park, they are not priced like regular campgrounds. Go to www.rvparkreviews.com and select Florida, then Orlando. The first campground that comes up is Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake.
This park is nestled in among housing developments and is safe (gated) and very quiet. You need to contact them by phone and find out the length of stay. Quite a number of the sites have electric and water and a dump station is close by.
We loved it and would go back in a heartbeat.

"Near Disney" is expensive. How far out are you willing to go and still consider yourself "near"?

we found one and called today.....$535 for a month long stay with tax and electricity included in this price. It's the PONDEROSA CAMPGROUND in Kissimmee. Anyone know of this one? We stayed at the KOA in Davenport in March/April this year and it was nice but we were looking for something different. You are right Bill, most of the places around Disney is expensive.

We spent a month at the Floridian. We had full hookups. The cost was very reasonable and the park was a gated one. We were 10 miles from Orlando, 10 miles from Kissimmee and 10 miles from St. Cloud. Perfect location for Disney. The park was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Two pools, plenty of biking area, laundry in park and a quickmart next door.
