HI all -- this may not be the proper forum for this question. However, don't know 'zactly where to post it. Last year about this time, we were going to go camping. Someone suggested a northwestern Florida larger island - at least I "think" it was a larger island. We went somewhere else and I'll be darned if I can find that same spot. I've looked all over the internet etc. I thought I had bookmarked it and I probably did, but I had to redo my operating system about 3-4 months ago, so lost most everything. Any ideas -- it was supposed to have been very chill and very naturesque...I think I just made up a word...LOL! Thanks for ANY and ALL suggestions cuz we have an unexpected break this weekend and want to leave Friday!

Thanks Bill -- it may have been Cedar Key, but that didn't ring any bells. I did call there and check it out though -- it doesn't have any sandy beaches though. They say it's all oysters on the bottom of the ocean so you can't really swim there -- just fish. So, that's not what we're looking for. We've decided to bite the bullet and go to the Keys - Sugarloaf again. BUT, we're still interested in any great spots up closer to Tampa, cuz that's home. Thanks for taking the time to post Bill!

The other thought was Sanibel Island but that would not be NW.

If you're talking about NW Florida you're probably thinking of St. George Island. Look for Apalachicola, SW of Tallahassee. It's a pretty neat barrier island with a state park on the bay side. The entire eastern end is protected and off limits to all but fishermen.

Interesting. Thanks for that information. There is camping there as well as St. Joseph Peninsula. Looks like a great stop I will see if I can work into one of my travel plans. Have you been there? Are there size and type RV restrictions?

Nope, not Sanibel -- know that very well cuz I used to live on that island! Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end! :)) Thanks for the thought though.

Bill, we've never stayed there in our RV. We used to get the family together from all parts of the USA and rent a beach house every year. I think Howard and Linda stayed at the state park and they should have it in their reviews. Just check out reserveamerica.com for all the length limits, etc. The CG was wiped out by one of the hurricanes several years ago and was totally rebuilt so it should be good for longer rigs. The beaches there are outstanding. Pure white sand and azure blue water.

Yes, Ron, that's it! Thank you so much. I just tried to see if they have any availability this weekend...NOT! Oh well, it was a valiant effort. How is the state park camping there? Any good? I just soooo appreciate you and Bill taking the time to post replies! I guess it's Sugarloaf Key for us this weekend. The only one that I could find that was still available and would allow our pets, etc. Talk about an arm and a leg for fees though. Shew .... might as well be renting a hotel in another area. PLUS, it's a MUCH longer trip from Tampa than we had anticipated. We always have fun there though, so I guess it's worth the extra sacrifices. Thanks again you two. You guys are great!

Glad to help! It would have been a miracle if you'd been able to get a reservation this close to a busy holiday weekend.
As I told Bill, we have stayed on the island several times, just not at the state park. The nice thing about the area is it's totally non-commercial. No fast food places, no WalMart, no chain supermarkets. A good place to get away from it all!
