I just found this site and was hoping to learn all I could from all of you willing to share :) I am 32 years old, married with a 20 month old son. As crazy as it sounds we are really thinking of renting our home out and going on the road full time with our 20 month old son. Now, the crazy thing is - we do not own an RV now (nor have we ever). When I was a kid my parents had a pop up and we would go places but never full time.
So, we know we are nuts, but we are good with that :) Any suggestions you all have would be GREATLY appreciated! We are looking at a travel trailer (probably 30-35') but are open to anything. I do have a home based business (sewing/embroidery) that I would be doing along the way.
We are thinking of doing this for minimum a year but maybe for the next 5+ years? Who knows! We were thinking we would stay at each place probably at least for 2 weeks if not a month in many places. Also, how expensive is RV insurance usually (excellent driving records ;)
How do you find family friendly campsites w/ hook-ups for low cost (I did find the freecampsites website and loving that!), do most places let you do month long rentals?
Thanks so much!

Well, being nuts, you have found a bunch of kindred souls. We haven't traveled with a 20 month old in years, but I do know it is do-able. As far as month long stays, that is easy to fix. Select the area you want to be in for whatever reason. Then go to RVparkreviews.com and check out the websites and comments on the parks in question. Looking at the rate list will most often give the long term rental information. There are many of the free or low cost campgrounds that restrict stays to less than 2 weeks, or that charge 10.00 a day after a set period. One here near home allows 3 days free, then it is 10.00 per day with no limit on length of stay. Some cut you off after 2 weeks, so the options are out there. Research, research, research.
(yep Bill, I did mean RVparkreviews) Thx

They have losts of experience with having kids and full timing on the road. They also have usefu links.
You might want to look at Toy Haulers. You could use the "garage" area for your sewing.

One of the things that got me started about full timeing was running into a couple with 4 children (under 12) at the Everglades in 2000. They sold everything and were traveling around the country. The education aspect is fabulous! The Mom home schooled and Dads job was internet friendly. Don't know how that would work with teen-agers, don't want to think about that.
