We are pulling a 31ft TT with a Ford F 250 Has anyone done this and provide some info on it?
Crossed Raton Pass today , our first mountain pass in the rig neat.

You may already be past it, but there is a National Forest campground called Purgatoire River Campground on Highway 12 west of Trinidad. Once you get through the valley and turn north at Stonewall, you will come to Monument Lake on your right side. A couple of miles north of the lake are two entrances to the campground. With your length of trailer, do NOT use the first entrance (which isn't marked anyway) but go to the second. If you cross a cattle guard and then reach another lake, you've gone too far.
We've camped up in those areas for years. If you want to pass up Purgatoire, you can go on north of the second lake (called North Lake) and cross the Cordova Pass. Just as you get to the bottom of that pass, there is a road going off to the left up to Bear Lake or Blue Lake Campgrounds.
Any of the campgrounds are nice, but ALL are without hookups. If you want hookups, you'll need to go on north to La Veta and find one of the RV parks in that small town.
If you choose to camp up there, check out my blog below and look at past entries for some reviews I did on Purgatoire River campground. It is a beautiful area, one in which we've camped since 1976.

Thanks Terry, what we were looking for. We are in the state CG at Trinidad, beautifull site and they spent a ton of money on it. Only problem is that the designer has, obviously, never seen an rv much less be conversant on how one is set up. Such poor designs pain me when so much money was spent on a project. The roads in the CG are paved but very narrow; most sites are layed out with little regard to turning radius; can you beleive water and sewage hard upagainst each other; how about water and sewage on one side and elec on the other? Most sites are gravel which is fine, many are blacktop and way out of level! All facilities are first class. The park overlooks a beautifull lake.

Highway of Legends
After climbing Raton Pass (7,800ft) and spending several days in Trinidad, Co. we awoke to almost an inch of snow. I am sure that it meant nothing to the locals but for us swamp dwellers it was an experience. We did the Highway of Legends, a most enjoyable 80 miles and the climb over Cucharas Pass, 10,000 ft was not bad at all, that is a not to miss trip when you get out this way. Now in Colorado Springs for a few days. The CG is very convenient and in town but the spaces are REALLY CLOSE but level,. Oh well, can’t have everything. (Would stay here again.)

If you get a chance be sure to visit Cripple Creek up in the mountains outside of the Springs. We took the RV up there for a few days and came back down the hill 2 weeks later.

I was raised up in Cripple Creek. The Hospitality house is one of the best CG in town.
