Had read somewhere that one needs to turn off LP gas for frig when re-fueling while travelling. Newbie here. Help!

We have never shut off the propane in 5+ years of traveling.

We always turn our fridge off when fueling because we have a motorhome whose configuration puts the refrigerator close to the fueling area. We also shut down the generator if we have it running for the same reason. I suppose if you had a 5th wheel where the fueling point on the truck was a ways away it probably wouldn't matter as much.

Depends on the fuel being pumped. If it is gas, I might think about wind direction, number of other folks pumping fuel nearby, type of trailer being towed, etc. If diesel, pump away, no matter what is being towed.

Thanks everyone,
We have a 5th wheel with frig on passenger side and a diesel truck with re-fuel on the driver side so according to what all are saying, we should be fine unless someone is re-fueling gas right next to our frig area. Being new I assume turning the frig off is as simple as switching a button on the frig.
Thanks for all the help. We are doing and learning everything for the first time and freaking out a little with all the unknowns. Planning a very long full-time trip and have alot to learn. Any other advice will be invaluble to us.
Thanks
Louie

We shut ours off when we run down the road but we have a propane line that runs near the tires that got hammered by a blow out once so we're happier doing it that way.
As for forgetting when you pull in that is why you have checklists laminated 8x10 color glossies in full living color.

We turn the fridge, hot water tank, and generator off while refueling. Safety is number 1. Makes no difference to me if fuel is diesel or gas. I don't want to be featured in the Darwin Awards (that commemorate those who assist natural selection by removing themselves from the gene pool... Darwin Awards are given to honor those who do their best to ensure that the next generation is smarter--by one. These heroes sacrifice their very lives to give our children a better future...)
