I know you are never supposed to use any cleanser powder in an RV, but what about SOS or Brillo scouring pads. Sometimes there is a need to use something to get burnt or stuck on food from pot or pan.
When we rented an RV in New Zealand, most camps had community kitchens and I just took a hard to clean pan there. Can you use the club house kitchen to di dishes once in a while at American RV resorts?

Why are you not supposed to use a powdered cleanser? That's new to me (full-timing since 1997). I do use SOS pads as well as soft scrub without issue.

Maybe it's a New Zealand custom. :)
I use the same cleaners I used in my sitcks and bricks.

I'm assuming it's because people think that the powders will harm the tank valve seals.

Just a friendly caution, don't use anything with a strong bleach content around rubber seals. Bleach has been known to dry out some of the seals used in toilet and holding tank valves if let sit any period of time. Even though we have not had this issue have known others who have and ended up with leaks.

I had heard it was because the cleanser damaged the seals. I've read thing about only using vinegar and water, or baby wipes for surfaces.
I'm still a dreamer who has no rig, but I want to do it right when I get there so I thought I'd put it out to the experienced.

I have the Shark Steam Cleaning System. About a couple of weeks ago, I didn't realize that a casserole spilled over in the oven and later in the week I baked some muffins and the spill. While cleaning I thought I would try what they showed in the commercial with the brush attatchment. I was surprised that it worked, although it took quite a while. Of course it was sanitized too! It also works great on mirrors.

The primary caution with powder or any abrasive cleansors in an RV is to not use such on surface of your head or basins that are fiberglass, as it will scar the gelcoat surface. Other than that, I agree completely with all that has been said.
