We need your guidance/experience. We need to find a couple of comfortable outdoor chairs to take in the RV that a guy who's had 3 knees replaced and an ankle fused can get out of without breaking the chair and landing on his kester -- not that we're speaking from experience here or anything...
I found the thread with lounger recommendations, but we're really looking for more of an upright chair. Something to sit around the fire and visit with the neighbors. Besides, I'm not sure Johnny could ever get out of the lounger.
We have quite an assortment of bag chairs and while they are comfortable and convenient they are just too difficult for Johnny to get up out of. Something with a slightly higher seat and some sturdy arms would be good. I've been looking, but not finding anything that is also portable.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

My daughter got some aluminum framed chairs from Costco that would be perfect for Johnny.
We got a couple of upright chairs from Academy a couple of years ago that are labeled "Lewis and Clark" Handy dandy side table attached on the right side, and a jim dandy cloth thingy on the left that has a zippered pocket, a cell phone slot and another pocket on it. They are out there, one just has to look.
I have the same problem rising from a "bag chair", I have a fused knee.

The good thing about those chairs is folks with bad knees don't have to worry about putting all their weight on the chair arms when getting up. They are plenty sturdy with weight capacity up to 375 pounds.
Also, Ming's has an SL 1204 model that you may want to check out (from the same link). I didn't look closely at the details or dimensions, but it looks just like the 1206 without the curved armrests and is about $25 less. And it comes in different colors.

Some good tips here already from what I can see. Have you thought about checking with a DME provider (durable medical equipment) or a physical therapist in your area to see if they have any recommendations?

We came across these chairs when visiting friends in Alaska and couldn't wait to return to the states to order some. We have been through many chairs over the years, but these are by far the most comfortable and easy to rise from. I share your discomfort about getting out of bag chairs.
Thanks everyone! I have to go to Acadamy today anyway, so will check the options there and Sam's Club. We have Costco, but not a member there...
I really like the Ming chair at Amazon that has the side table and the what looks like a carry case... Johnny says the one with the case always wins with me!
We did ask the phyical therapist who worked with Johnny after his last knee replacement. His response was interesting but not helpful. Told us that he has been warned not to give recommendations for equipment they don't provide. Did tell us to look for something with a wider, sturdier base, higher seat and sturdy arms. And to keep reminding Johnny to "squeeze the butt and lift with the legs" not his arms.
Will let you know what we find and how it works.

This is our favorite chair. I carry two of them in the basement of our 5th wheel and still have room for other items. They take up about 3ft W by 4ft L and 1ft H of storage space for the two. Here's the website: http://www.livingxl.com/store/en_US/index.jsp
Look under Outdoor Chairs for the Patio Rocking Chair.... It's big, comfortable and comes apart in 4 pieces for transport. It is a little hard to get out of unless you have someone rock it forward for you.

At the West Marine website look for the Kingfish Folding Deck Chair. Do a search on the website for Kingfish and it will come up. Here's the website:

These chairs are very comfortable for long time seating and easy to get out of. They are a little pricey, you may be able to find them cheaper somewhere else. Camping World used to carry them. They last a long time so the price becomes a non-issue as time goes by.

My husband is a "larger" person and has some mobility issues. The Costco director's chairs have worked beautifully for him....higher off the ground than many "lawn" chairs and are sturdy and comfortable...and best of all, not too pricey. The newer versions of them also have a fold-down table on one side. We also do not belong to Costco, but so many of our RVing friends do, and are kind enough to make an occasional purchase for us. They are often only available in the spring, however.

This posting has been very helpful for me...lots of suggestions on outside chairs. Currently....I had to put an extra pillow on my outside chair to make it easier to get out. Had both knees redone. The knees themselves do not hurt anymore but the rest of my legs are still hurting. Still need to strengthen them. Their not use to so much more activity...guess you could say its a sign of improvement.

I'm with you Bill. We purchased our Elite Strongback chairs from LL Bean on sale for $53.00 each including delivery. Best camp chairs we have ever owned. They are very sturdy.

I bought 2 strongback type chairs 12 yrs ago in a joblots store and wish I had bought more....they have stayed in new condition with alot of use........the only drawback I have found is when you stand up to go get something the chair seems to draw others to sit in it and leave you standing!!!!.......I've complained to the Mfg. but they just laugh and hang up!!

Great info for me too. As I need to order some chairs so I have them when my rv comes in.
I like those king fish 2's at west marine.. Heavy though.. Is it conceivable of have 2 sets of chairs? one set for the campsite.. and one for travel.. to like a event or something?
