We are getting ready to fulltime in four months and my husband is a diabled veteran.  We get free camping here in WA state at state campgrounds.  I wondered if there is a National organization that provides discounts to veterans?

Check out http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/ for a list of military campgrounds. While not free most have good rates compared to private parks.

Thank you so much for this website!  It's awesome and just what we were looking for.  I spent hours looking at many of the campgrounds around the country.  We are soooo ready to retire and explore this beautiful country.

Louisiana is one of the few states that give 50% discount with the America the Beautiful Pass.

My husband will go tomorrow to see about the pass.  He has 30% disability documented by the VA.  None of the websites say what percentage of disability qualifies one for the pass.  So, we'll see.

We learned something on a trip last year. If one of you is a veteran and/or disabled, ALWAYS ask when you check into any state or national park if there are discounts available. We stayed at a Tennessee State Park for $10 a night with full hook ups last year just because we asked. Otherwise we had no indication they offered a discount.

Yes, it never hurts to ask. Different states require different forms of proof. My home state of Illinois requires some form that proves disability had been determined by the state, which I haven't quite figured out yet. Missouri, my next door neighbor state, only requires a handicap parking placard or handicap license plate.

Texas State Parks are GREAT and if you show them your Disability Compensation Papers they will give you a pass for free that gives you free entrance into their parks. Don't even have to be a TX resident. We have one. You still have to pay the camping fee, but at least you get free entrance into their parks. And don't hesitate to ask about military discounts (some also offer DOD) at private parks. Quite a few offer them. Also lowes and Home Depot offer 10% off if you show active or retired ID.

If a disabled veteran is not actually retired from the military their disability must be 100% to qualify for military campgrounds/RV parks. That may not be 100% true but it's very close.

I did a little over 31 years active military service. When I retired the VA awarded me a 40% disability. I have a VA ID card that says "service connected disabled veteran". Sometimes it will get me a discount that was otherwise unexpected. But, most of the time, you have to ask.

Oregon gives 10 days in a 30 day period free for 30% or greater (even non residents) https://stateparks.oregon.gov/?do=v.page&id19. Virgina gives free entrance and 50% on camping and annual fishing licence for $12.50 for 100% disabled vet nonresident.
