We found a motorhome we really like and good (and picky) friends have checked it out for us. 

My husband is going to make an offer on it - but we've got one concern . . . .it's in another state.  Our friends are planning on delivering it to us here where we live.  Now - do we pay sales tax where the motorhome is or in our home state where we'll register it??  It's a substantial difference in dollars.

In your home state. We purchased our motorhome in Florida and we live in Georgia and we didn't have to pay any sales tax. You might check and see if this applies to your state. We purchased from a private owner NOT a dealership. If we bought at a dealership we would have had to pay sales tax.

Our situation was like Mike & Gerri's. We had just sold our home in Ohio. We purchased a MH in Florida. We were heading to TX in 4-5 weeks to become Texans. We waited until we registered the MH in Texas to pay the sales tax......I was hoping with all the moving they would forget about the takes...LOL We too purchased from a private owner.

Thanks for the info.  Sort of what we're thinking.  North Dakota will always be our home now so we will be registering it here.  Looks like we may just go out to CA and pick it up ourselves, tow the minivan home.  CA is where we're from, where my kids and our friends live, but it's not home anymore.
