We have been looking for an "older" 5th wheel to try out the travel lifestyle. Found one in the paper today...went to see it...a 1996 Starcraft. The outside is in great condition....has been repainted and awings on every window. The inside is OK, however, the furniture is old and ugly and the carpet is awful green! The mattress needs to be replaced and there is NO table and chairs to eat on. The window coverings are mint green with mini blinds. So my question is..... Has anyone ever renovated an older model.....where do you get the furniture.....how easy is it to do and HOW EXPENSIVE?? This is a 30 ft. unit....A/C works great....machanically is wonderful. Just the inside looks ugly! :) The price is $10,000....I think a bit high....for such an outdated unit. Am I being unreasonable??

I wouldn't jump at the first thing I see in that price range. You should be able to find something that doesn't need that much work if you shop around. It's human nature to want to get something as quick as possible but if you shop around deals are out there.

I think once you find out what it will probably cost to update this unit you could buy a newer model for the same or possibly less money. Its still a buyers market and there are still good buys out there. Don't hesitate to offer a lower amount, even if it seems to be ridiculous you may negotiate yourself a fantastic buy. Best of luck in your search.

We switched out all our original furniture and bought 2 Lazy Boy leather recliners that are the MOST comfortable chairs we've ever owned. We even sleep in them when we have overnight company.

You can pretty much use the same furniture you would buy for a home. Just look for smaller and lighter but comfortable pieces. The window treatments can be ordered to fit the RV windows.
You should be able to find some nice, better styled units in that price range. Ours is a 1995 but the interior design and colors would still hold up today. I've seen similar design and color is still used in many of the latest models.
