Hi, everyone. We are at my brother's in NJ. He has a 50 amp circuit in his workshop with a range (two straight and one half-round holed) outlet. Our DutchStar would like 50 amps. How can we hook up to his outlet? We tried refiguring a dog-bone 30/50 amp adapter with a new male range plug. But we still only get 15 amps. We talked to an electrician and he said we needed two neutral points (thus the four prongs) but there are only three wires in the cable! Help, anyone?

Since I am not an electrician, take anything with a grain or two of salt. I read on either this or another travel forum that a welding/range/dryer plug could not be configured to provide 50 amps to the trailer. Something about not enough commons or some such esoteric bit of information.
I have seen an adaptor device that takes power from two 15 amp plugs and converts to 30 amps. It's similar to a y adaptor but has a box with a 30amp RV plug on it. I did a quick search on the internet and found a two 30 amp to 50 amp adaptor but couldn't find the dual 15 amp to 30.
Your MH should be able to run off of a 30AMP outlet. Usually the only reason you need 50 amps is if you plan on using two A/Cs at the same time or A/C and washer dryer at the sametime.
In other words, 50 amps will let you use everything in the MH at the sametime. With 30 amp service you just have to make sure you only use one high draw electrical appliance at a time. All the little stuff like TV, sat box, dvd player will work along with one or even two high draw like one A/C and the washer. Or the washer and dryer but no A/C.

Again, I must caution you to be very careful that any plug you hook your RV to is wired for an RV.
If not wired correctly and you plug in your RV it may fry everything electronic inside of your unit!!
Please be very careful and make sure it's right before plugging in!!

May I say this with respect for your safety and your rig’s as well:
The plug you indicate is not useable. It is missing the neutral or ground wire; probably the neutral.(Takes 2 hot wires - 1- neutral - 1- ground for a 50 amp RV plug.)
You cannot use this plug for "50 amps" as is.
This link provided and copied here again is excellent and correct.
May I suggest you print this out and call a qualified electrician to do an install of the correct electrical outlet? This cannot be “jury rigged” and work ---or worse.Don’t try to use “adapters” to make it 50 amps for an RV.You can’t.It is missing wires.
What you are asking about is a common question and requires the same friendly, but firm response: call someone who understands this and have them do the work of adding the proper wiring. If you don’t know what you are doing you will have a problem and it could be very expensive.
Safe travels

You guys rock. Gary and I thank you so much. We will call an electrician to get a proper outlet installed and then we can get more than the 15 amps we're running right now. We have a surge protector, and we trust it - to an extent. We will be v-e-r-y careful. Thanks again!
