Does anyone have experience running a 15,000BTU a/c with a Honda 3,000 gen set?
The dealer says that this gen will power this a/c with no problem.
The exact unit is Honda EU3000IS.

Yep it will work... There is a remote start kit available for the 3000IS. It uses a key fob to send a signal to shut down or start the generator. My internet connection just went weird, I was going to try and locate the website. Do a Google search for Honda 3000is remote start.

Check the weight and determine if you will keep it in one location. I move my generators so I decided to go with 2 Honda 2000 connected paralell at 46 # each. I would not like to lift anything heavier

Made the decision and thanks for the input it really helped.

Constraints were two, weight of the unit and height.
 
These two, dictated the HONDA 3000i (Handi) as they call it.
It is light enough for me to pick it up and place it on the tow veh. bed and it will fit under the hard toneau cover on the bed, I was limited to 19 inches high.

This unit is lighter than the other 3KW due to no elec starter and no battery and is 21 inches high.

I checked with two local dealers and found a $325 price differential!

One of the popular manufacturere had told us that it corresponds to the frequency converter and the batteries would be enough to drive one 15,000 BTU air conditioner, provided that a number of other appliances not in use simultaneously. For most, the biggest power draw comes when the air conditioner is first started, so the energy consumption is down to a lower level.

I was going to start a new topic on the Honda eu3000is but glad I did a search first. I have been debating which generator to get a Honda 3000 or the Onan 2800 Microlite. Right now I am leaning toward the Honda because of all the positive reviews I have heard.

I like the idea of the EU300i HANDI, primarily because of the weight of the EU3000iS. The EU3000iS is too heavy to lift in and out of the front compartment of my 5th wheel because of the awkward angle it would have to be put in there (even with Jo helping me) but too tall to go in the bed of my truck. I have a 20" limitation because of a hard, lockable, tonneau. However, the HANDI has a lot of limits on its running time. Therefore, the intermediate solution seems to be the combination of the EU2000i plus the EU2000i COMPANION running in parallel. My problem would then be a lazy one. Do I run both all the time in case I need that air conditioner or just run one and start the other when I need more oomph! (layman's term for amps). Paul

We have friends that have 2 Honda 1000's wired together and he has no problem running the air conditioner. Maybe those would fit in the back of the truck?

Don't know anything about 1000s. I'm talking about the 2000s. Both  are only 16.7" high.

I pur the Honda 3000 MANUAL start due to two reasons 1- I can lift it bymyself onto the pickup bed aand dwn. 2- it is an inch or so less in ht which fits under my bedcover on the truck. Both of the foregong were imp. to me. It starts rt off and is quiet. CCC

Perhaps you can provide a part number, a purchase place, and the actual height?

I noticed some in this discussion are in the south and near sea level where a Honda 3000 may do fine but read the fine print on the power output at altitude and you may fine sufficient power loss somewhere around 6000-7000 ft to keep you from starting your 15000 BTU AC depending on the the starting current required.  I have met some frustrated campers at the hot mountain lakes in NM, AZ and CO.

Paul, Honda EU 3000i It is 16.5 inches high which is abt 2 inches shorter, as I recall, than the elec start model. I did not want the elec start anyway, battery would be dead when I needed to start it for sure. We have been on this trip since July 1 and have used it one time only. CCC

OK, ... you are talking about the EU3000i HANDI that I mentioned previously. Only drawback is its shorter run time due to smaller gas tank.

Since I have used it only once I have not addressed that and do not yet know if it will be a prob for me. There are exact instructions on the net on a realtively simple method to add an auxillery tank. CCC
