We will begin fulltiming in May. We are in our early 50s and will have to purchase health insurance until we are eligible for Medicare. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of insurance is affordable and what companies offer the best policy for people who wander around the country. We would appreciate hearing how others have dealt with this issue. Thanks!

Congratulations on starting fulltiming soon! Howard has gone into this topic in much detail in some of his previous posts - they would be a great place to start. I'm sure that you will get many other responses as to what everyone is doing for coverage. We are not there yet as we haven't started fulltiming and are still covered by my company.

Here is the most recent post from Howard in which he has links to health coverage, Medicare and Social Security. Very informative

You might check www.ehealthinsurance.com I had BlueCross/Blue Shield coverage thru them. It wasn't cheap, but it was cheaper than other places I checked.

Also check into any professional organizations you are already a member of or can be a member, especially while still working. Some have group plans available for their members and/or their member's small businesses.
