I was just curious as to how much registering an RV cost.

Where? What kind of RV? New ? Used ? Information it vital to an answer. Probably best to call your local DMV.

Yup, completely depends on the state you register it in.

It can vary more than you might think. We have friends that pay more than $1000 a year, and for some reason or other, in Wisconsin it only costs us $170 for both the truck and trailer.

In California, it's about the same as registering a car. The registration fee is based on the value of the RV/ Vehicle. For a $100K RV/Vehicle it starts at about $1500 and depreciates over the years to about $33.
Apparently, Colorado bases on empty weight, so registration there could be pretty expensive each year. On one forum, a commenter mentioned that the registration for their unit was $1000 for the first year and that it would diminish "slightly" each year thereafter. However, he didn't mention what the weight of his unit was.
I would suggest going to Colorado's DMV to find out more.

I can attest to Colorado being very expensive to register a vehicle. We just paid over $700 to register the truck. OUCH! We thought about setting up our TX address and registering it there since we'll be chaning residency in a few months anyway, but when we figured out how much it would cost to drive the truck down there, pay for a few nights of hotel and eating out, we would have broken even. And since we didn't really have the time to make an impromptu trip, we just bit the bullet.
Colorado Kid - are you planning to remain a Colorado resident or are you setting up residency elsewhere? If the latter, you may want to think about doing that before buying the RV.

I registered my coach and toad in Texas and did it all through the mail. The Escapee's website has all the details. You don't need to have the state safety inspection done on your vehicles until you actually find yourself in Tx.

I just paid this years registration in Texas on our 2001 F-150 Supercrew truck and 30 foot Keystone Bobcat RV. Total was $120.07 for both, same as last year. Cheap if you ask me. Where they get us is on property taxes. $4600 for a $225,000 home.

tibbar:Many people camp for a year on less that that property tax. Another reason we sold the house and became fulltimers. (grin)

We just started fulltime traveling on Monday. We are at the Escapees park in Livingston TX and in the process of changing our residency. Today we take the truck and fiver to get inspected and registered. Will update when we get back.

I just asked a sales manager at a RV lot in Colorado about the cost of registration and he said a that a good rule of thumb is that registration will cost 1.5% of the cost of the RV.

I registered my RV last November in South Dakota, cost of the RV was around $150.00. Total for the truck, RV, and motorcycle was just under $300.00. In KS it would have cost me over $500.00 for just the truck. I am going to have SD as my home state as we own property up there and it has been my home.
