Is there anyone with the above weather radio that could give me a "how to set it up to alert for storms etc" ? We bought this at Fry's Electonics last year in Vegas. No one at Fry's knew how it worked but we thought we could read the manual and set it up. Tried a few times this year and got confused. Called Midland but all they would say is "read the manual". Followed the directions as best we could and lived through a few Tornado warnings & watches, flood warnings etc. The TV was constantly flashing take cover warnings etc but the radio was mute. I'm guessing we do not have it set up right. I have a hard time getting the VCR to stop flashing "12:00" so I need real simple step by step directions. If you have time and the know now on the WR-300, I'd be grateful for a PM. Thanx

First thing you need to know is the SAME code for your location. I don't know where in the world your located so go to this site and find the code for your location. If you need help finding your code I will need to know your current state and county.

Yup got the codes for each place we have tried the radio. The instruction book even shows you how you can get all the alerts for the entire state by using the state code only. We tried that as well. What I need is to talk to someone with this model. I suspect its a USER PROBLEM but maybe the radio is just junk.

Ok. Just one thing...I have to do this with my radio...when I get to a new location I have to cycle my radio through the different NWS broadcast frequencies until I find the one that covers my location. If your not picking up the broadcast weather NWS sends out 24/7 you won't pick up the alerts. On my radio I have to un-mute the audio, then cycle through the 8 frequencies until I hear the weather forecast. Once I hear that I mute the audio, then set the SAME codes. I usually set at least 2 county codes, one for the county I am in, and the county east of my location.

We have a Midland WR-100 and are happy with it. We go through and find the strongest broadcast when we set up camp just like Norcal Dan, but leave it set for all counties most of the time. If we find it going off alot, like spring in Tornado alley, we set the SAME code. I suspect the WR-300 would behave similarly.
