For anyone using National Interstate for your RV insurance, you might want to take a look at Nick Russels blog http://gypsyjournal.net/blog/ and see what he's going through with them after his rig was burglarized. It's sounding like a horror story. Start with the entry on Dec 16 and come forward.

Yeah, I've been watching his blog. That's the insurance we have right now. Maybe by Nick making his problems public, he'll shake things up in National Interstate a little.
We may switch companies when ours comes due again though. Nobody needs that kind of grief to get a claim settled.

I am confident that the word is spreading about Nick's experience with National Interstate. We, also, have our motorhome insured with National Interstate through Poliseek, formerly Aon.
We have had but one claim for a driver's side windshield replacement caused by road debris. The approval process was quick and easy. They sent the check out on time. However, the local glass shop said their people were rude on the phone. Again, that is hearsay. I was treated well and paid promptly.
Like most others, I am concerned and will follow the conclusion of Nick's battle to resolve his claims fairly. If the conclusion is not satisfactory, there will be a significant loss of business for both the agency and the carrier. We did not purchase on price, and are truly concerned. As a group, in my opinion, we need to follow this and take the proper action, depending upon the final conclusion. It may be that Nick's first insurance adjuster was just not the best or right one. However, this is extremely important to all of us.

We also have insured with Poliseek [formerly Aon]. It looks like Nick is finally getting the attention that he should have received from day one. I will see how this all plays out and if the insurance company will give him a just settlement. We all pay a healthy amount to have our rvs and other vehicles insured in good faith. We pay in a timely fashion so all we expect in return is the same timely payment for claims with fair, polite, and considerate treatment. Any business that does not treat its clients in that fashion will not be able to retain them and have difficulty finding new clients.

I too utilize National although through a different agent. I am not exactly sure why which agent you use figures into this--unless you have problems dealing with National itself--since I would naturally deal directly with the insurance company itself. In any case, like Roz, my only experience with them (knock on wood) was to take advantage of their windshield replacement policy. In my case a leveler malfunction had caused a total--top to bottom crack in my passenger side windshield. Although I had a slight problem coordinating the whole process while on-the-fly--I was on a tight schedule and had to arrange for the replacement before I arrived at a predetermined campground and National didn't seem accustomed to just dealing with me rather then through the glass installer--I have to say that as these things go, my overall experience with National was relatively painless.
Now if you want to talk about a very user unfriendly, bureaucratic insurance company that seems to be set up in order to discourage claims you probably should be pointing fingers at the Good Sam extended warranty service. I once tried to get my dryer repaired and had to give up in frustration and pay for it myself--not to mention all of things they do not cover.

We used to have National Interstate until this September. We filed one claim with them this spring, and after many phone calls, we finally received our payment for damage to our 5th wheel. (about 3 months after the accident, but we were able to afford to pay for all repairs ourselves, and got reimbursed later)
In September we had to change to Allied, as we learned that our tow vehicle was NOT covered by National Interstate's policy if we were driving without our 5th wheel connected. We also purchase a Volvo truck in September and National Interstate would not write our policy to cover our F550, the Volvo, and our trailer.
Allied covers all three on one policy, and is costing us about 200 dollars less than what we were paying at National Interstate, plus we are now covered for when I am just driving the F550 or the Volvo (bob-tailing) When my F550 is sold, we will save even more money.

We have our Fifth wheel Insured with RV America... but the policy is of course with National Interstate...
I too will be following Nick and his problems dealing with this company. The Policy sure sounds good when you sign on with them... I will be looking for other companies the next couple weeks.

Steve,
It would have helped to have started a totally new thread with your question about National Interstate. As with other 5-year-old posts, National Interstate could very well be different than what the posters on this thread said back in 2009. Unfortunately, many later viewers to this thread may get the opinion that everything in this thread is still relevant and up to date, and it may very well not be.
We are with National Interstate through Miller Insurance, but the only claim we have made is to have a rock chip repaired in one of our vehicle's windshields. That isn't really enough "experience" with National Interstate to really give you an answer.
