I'm sure that we all have the idiot light battery monitor in our rigs. My question is has anyone found a didgital battery monitor that can be placed next to the idiot lights and use the existing wiring ?

Yup! What I did (and this is kind of cheesy) is took a volt meter from Harbor Freight (on sale for $1.99 a few years ago) and cut off the ends on the wires. I loosened up the idiot light gauge and spliced the two wires from the volt meter. I just used two way tape to hold the volt meter in place.
Now, when I push the button to see the lights, I get a volt reading on the batteries. As I said, it was cheesy, as it's not one of those fancy LED volt meters, but it works, and saved a bunch of money.
This is the meter I used/using. They are on sale all the time for $2.99 at a local store.
