While we have been looking for some time and have had the house up for sale for over a year, we have always been in the position of backing out of the full-timing idea at any time.
That is, until yesterday.
We found a used 2008 Ford F450, King Ranch package, with 46000 miles and managed to get it for just over $30,000. So, now that we have the towing vehicle, we are committed now to definitely sell and buy a luxury fifth wheel.

Congratulations! It's funny that I was echoing your thoughts just the other day. While mentally we have comitted to this transition, we have yet to do anything for which there is no turning back, so in a lot of ways it is still very much a dream. I'm sure it feels great to make the leap! Good luck on the rest of the process.

I just woke up three or four times last night asking myself, "What in the h*ll did you just do?!
In reality, we have been waffling a little lately. We were concerned about the price of a NEW F450 (roughly $70,000 MSRP) because I didn't really think we would ever find a used F450 here in Oklahoma that wasn't all beat up from being in the "oil patch".
To find something this good for the good price had Jo and I both excited. We even took off work a half hour early to get to the dealer.
In reality, I found it while I was on their website looking for an F350 because Jo and I thought that maybe we ought to get a lighter and cheaper fiver that could be pulled with the F350. Unbelievably, they had absolutely no F350's and when I looked further at their inventory, I found the F450.

You didn’t say whether or not the 450 was a dually, but regardless you can now forget about parking up front at Wal-Mart.
Prior to our current MH, I had 5Wers and towed them with a F-350 dually. The 350 is basically a beefed up 250 and the 450 is a beefed up 350. Either way they are a great series of vehicles and I cried when I sold the 350 King Cab.
If you don’t follow thru with getting the 5W, then I’ll buy it off of you for a couple buck more than you paid. Yeah I know, I’m an ambulance chaser.

Good buy on a good tow vehicle.As far as not parking up front at wal-mart I beg to differ.It IS harder than parking a Prius but once you get used to it you can park them ALMOST any where you want.Just watch that outside duel wheel for a while. I can guaranty you will scrub a curb or two before you get used to it. Now the real fun in finding that perfect 5er.

For what I have seen, all F450's are duallys with a crew cab, meaning four doors. My youngest son, now aged 37, still likes to go camping with us. In the past, with just an extended cab pickup, Jo always had to ride in the back (not entirely comfortable) so that Eric could have the room in the front seat. Now, they have the option of swapping places now and then.
As for the offer of buying it off of me, I'll keep that in mind. However, don't hold your breath.

Terry and Jo, we bought a gently used Ford F350 Double Cab, Diesel Duelly, King Ranch. I drive this truck everyday. So far (knock on wood) I have not gotten the "Fat Girl" into any trouble with dings and dents but parking it is always a consideration. I am getting plenty of exercise for sure. The turning radius on our 350 is not like turning on a dime and that was a little hard to get used to but overall, its the best truck we've ever owned. Even after our little maintenance issue at the Rally, Ford covered everything under warranty to our surprise and we LOVE the truck.
A 450 would be even better! You two got an incredible deal.
Right now, we are hauling our TT with it and you should see how fast we go up hills. LOL We too are overpowered until we purchase our fifth wheel.

I'm with you on that Terry, I always park out away from every one,always have, even before dually.The only time I park close is when Linda is with me as she is disabled.We do have the advantage of Handicap parking then.There will be times when you go to small strip malls and stuff where you get to practice parking in a tight space.Don't like it because of door dings but sometimes you have no choice.Enjoy your new truck.
