I'm planning to add a security light to each side of my coach. The ones that you typically see on RV's from the factory. About 6" round, chrome bezel, you know the ones. I'm wondering if there is any reason I can't splice into an existing 12 volt wire in a slideout, like an interior sconce, or any other 12 volt light for power. Main reason being it's easier than running a lead to the battery or breaker box. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks, Dave

I think you can splice in to any live 12 wire, but the problem I see, is how are you going to switch it on and off.

Picked up 12v switches and face plates to match those already in the unit. The plan is to come off the wall sconce, to the switch, to the light. (example) I really havent decided about location. The way the slides are positioned on each side, I really need to locate the lights on the slides and power off an existing source in the slides. Thanks for the input. Dave

When you expose the wiring you should take out a multi-meter, preferable a clamp on, and measure the amps going through the wires when the wall sconces are on. Then do not exceed that amperage with your security lights. I am 99% sure the wiring is just adequate for the amps used and so is the fuse (where ever that is) to prevent overloading the circuit and risking a fire.
