I'm going thru "stuff" & trying to get rid of things that I won't be taking on the road.  I have quite a few craft supplies to get rid of.  I'm wondering where might be the best place to sell them.  I've never done an Ebay auction, but I'm thinking perhaps I should try that. Are there any other online auction sites that would be more effective than Ebay?  Or are there any websites that cater to craft items where I might sell my stuff?

How about craigslist.com?

Ebay is the largest most well known auction site, i am sure they have a craft supply section, i would go there, good luck.G

As a former seller on E-bay,in my opinion I would use Craigslist.
p.s. Beware, you will get automated e-mail not related to what you are selling on both sites.

I think ebay would be your best bet.  Just do a search on what is selling that is exactly like what you have and search under the auction closed section to see what they sold for.

Careful with Craiglist There have been several crimes related to Craiglist ads. In the past couple of months, several instances where people came to look at merchandise and tied up the homeowner and stole items from the house. A couple of rapes and murders, all the result of a listing in Craiglist. With E-bay no one comes to your home. In today's economy, I don't see a lot of success stories coming from E-Bay. If you look through the listings for like craft supplies to yours, pay attention to whether the merchandise is getting many bids. Most of the items on E-bay I've looked at have zero bids. Try community craft shows, holiday boutique sales, garage sale or swapmeet/flea market. Maybe trying selling the whole bunch to a craft supply store or depending on your tax situation, donate the items and take the deduction.

check your state laws reguarding Ebay. In Pennsylvania you can no longer sell on Ebay legally without an auctioneers' license.

Thanks so much for all of the great advice!  Each method of selling, Ebay, Craigslist, etc, does have it's pros & cons.  I may try a combination of selling on the internet & in person.

As far as craigslist...we sold a few items this year but hubby was home with me when they came over and the two other items we met them at a public place. It's more of a hassle but can be done safely.

A couple of the Craigslist robberies occurred at a public place where the seller met with a supposed buyer, and another robbery, the wife and husband were tied up in their home and the house was ransacked. Don't want to be a party pooper just sharing some recent events. Here in the Southern California area the criminals are becoming more and more bold, I'm not sure if it's due to the poor economy or other factors. It may be due to less police presence since so many cities and counties are facing financial problems and have cut back on staff. These past 2 years there have been: - more muggings in broad daylight, - quite a few women have been accosted usually the criminal has entered the house through an unlocked door or open window, - lots of barge in crime, somone posing as a survey taker or salesperson forces their way into the home when the occupant answers the door, - more bank robberies - more rapes I'm beginning to feel the need to wear a six shooter for protection, just like in the old west. For the first time, in 36 years, my wife and I have discussed purchasing a gun to keep in the home and RV for protection.

Have sold hundreds of items on Craigs List, met a few stupid people but never felt threatened by any of them. Just the other side of the coin to contemplate.

The new Post Office TV ads have me thinking about Ebay again. If it fits in the box, regardless of weight, its the same price. Not sure what those prices might be, but can't be any worse than other shippers. If you want a fair price and will stick with fair shipping rates, Ebay is my choice. Craigs List scares me.

I sell on eBay and Etsy. I avoid Craig's List for safety and a few other reasons. It kind of depends on what you have to sell, and large lots seem to do the best IMO.
