If you have about $90,000 to $100,000 to spend, and your intended use is to live in it where it's warm for a few months each winter, and occasional weeks and/or week ends during the summer, what motorhome would you buy????
Apart from the price range and usage and current motorhome market conditions, there are no other limitations; i.e. it can be new or used, gas or diesel, etc etc
It just needs to be something that's currently available and buyable in that price range. Please take into account the likely difference between "asking" prices and what a willing seller is likely to take (I know that's a big "guess", but do your best based on your experiences.)
I'm guessing/hoping most of you full timers keep fairly current on values and what's available.
Thanks MUCH!!

Bob,
I don't think anyone can answer your question. There are too many variables that only you can answer.
For instance, what size RV are you looking at? Only you can decide how much room you need.
Are you looking at a Class C or a Class A? Lots of difference between them.
I would suggest that you start by going to RV dealers in your area or an RV show, and see what you like. Then attempt to find something you like in your price range.
As for specific brands, that's kind of like deciding between Ford or Chevy. If buying used, it would probably be best to stay with a brand with a good reputation like HR, Winnebago, Allegro, or one of the other popular brands.
I guess what it all boils down to is that only you can decide what you are comfortable with, that is in your price range. The only way that I know of is to go out and look at the different RVs and try to find something you like.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but i hope it helps.

Personally, I would go with a 5th wheel, you get more for your money plus you have a vehicle to drive once you get to your destination.
If a Class A motorhome is the only choice, for a new unit I would look at the Four Winds products the the Hurricane, Windsport or Magellan. They are nice looking units with lots of features and good pricing. These would make a good MH for the situation you describe.
Used will open up a larger selection, look for lots of features, low mileage, unbeatable price and in showroom condition. Take your time, there's lots of used MHs to choose from. We like the Revolution, Safari and Intrigue models. These were in the $200,000 range new so you may have to look for 5 year old models to hit your price. Who knows in this market you may be able to find a newer model....

Alfa made a great product in class A's and 5th wheels, with a 5 year extended warranty. Since they went out of business last year, I have seen some great bargains out there. If the warranty is transferrable, this could be an avenue to explore.

If the warranty was from Alpha and they went out of business, who would it be transferable to?

I know this was a tough and in some ways an almost unanswerable question as I wrote it......
but, what I'd reallly like to know is what MOTORHOME that YOU would buy in that price range and for that use based on YOUR experience and preferences, and why.
I know I may be wrong, but I think it would help me sort out the inevitable compromises we have to make.
Thanks!

Fred, the extended warranty is thru Western General, not Alfa. We have made several repairs since Alfa's demise and have been covered. I just don't know if it can be transferred to a new owner. Sorry about my lack of explanation.

For new I would go with one of the three higher quality Class A motorhome companies still in business. Those are (with web links) Winnebago/Itasca (lots of choices in gas and some Class C's), Tiffin Motorhomes (Allegro/Allegro Bay should be in the right price range after discounting) and Newmar (the Bay Star and Canyon Star should be in range). There are other brands still alive like Damon, Gulfstream and Coachman, but they do not have the same reputation but might work for a non-fulltimer. Also Born Free and Lazy Daze make quality Class C's.
Used there are oodles of choices.

I would recommend used...there are a lot of choices out there right now and some very good deals. With the economy the way it is now people are unloading. It's a buyers market right now...

i also woudl recommend used. I would go with Bill's list first.....I would look at Tiffin #1, then the other 2. I would not ignore some of the real high quality units like Foretravel - you can find some nice used ones that are older and in great shape. There are some bargains out there IF you can pay cash.

If you put a GUN to my head and forced me to spend money on a motorized RV I would go with the Jayco Seneca would likely be my choice one of the Super C's on a medium duty truck chassis.
